Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 73424
Issue printing to Windows printers
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:44:35 UTC
When printing documents containing images on the page, the printer will usually print nothing but the image. If multiple images are on the same page, only one of them gets printed. It does not seem to matter what the type of the image inserted is, the issue still happens. This issue seems to appear in all versions, from OOo versions 1.1.4 -> 2.1. I have used Windows XP, 2000 and server 2003 and all appear to have the same issue. The printer in question is a Panasonic DP-4510, but the same issue appeared using a DP-3030, also from Panasonic. These are both currently setup using GDI drivers. Worth noting is that an earlier model using a PCL card did not have this issue. Other printers seem to have no issue printing the same document, and even the Panasonic will print the document properly if it is exported and printed as a PDF. This error occurs whether using an odt or an sxw file.
Also worth noting is that this issue does not happen when using Calc.
Reassigned to HI.

My guess is that the Panasonic printer lines up with the one from HP and Brother with buggy drivers.... If the network is installed as "network printer" (doesn't matter whether physically attached to the computer or not), then remapping the networt location to a local printer port should solve the problem. So please check with something like net use lpt2: \\server\printer /persistent=yes
I've test it with several printers excepting panasonic printer because have none. Works for me
Remapping it as a network printer would be fine if we were actually using it as a network printer. At the moment, users install it as a local printer, using a TCP/IP port. Now, without using it as a network printer, is this some kind of known issue with Writer and GDI printers?
Is there any fix if we are not sharing the printer but instead have it mapped to a TCP/IP port, as in lpr?
This Issue requires more information ('needmoreinfo'), but has not been updated within the last year. Please re-test with one of the latest versions of OOo - the problem(s) may have already been addressed. Either use the recent stable version: http://download.openoffice.org/index.html or consider trying the new OOo 3 BETA (still in testing): http://download.openoffice.org/3.0beta/ Please report back the outcome so this Issue may be closed or progressed as necessary - otherwise it may be Resolved as Invalid in the future. This is still an issue, re-tested with latest 2.4 and 3.0 beta. Both versions still achieve the results attached previously. What extra info is needed? I'll be happy to provide it.
Still an issue in 3.0 final.
Just for test, try the XPS driver from MS to compare the result and save paper. http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/xps/viewxps.mspx Please print the odt and sxw files with the xps driver and let me know about the result. If the error still occur, just attach the xps file, Thanks.

Same issue occurs with the XPS document writer, I've attached the .xps file.
HI->PL: It seems not depends on printer. Please have a look.
