Description harmhilvers 2007-01-16 19:27:25 UTC
The list of recently opened document in GNOME, accessible via the Places menu,
doesn't contain files opened in OOo. It does contain files from other programs,
so I expected my OOo documents there too.

harm,
it does for me on Suse 10.2 with Novell's build of 2.0.4.
Are you using Sun build or distro-specific build?

I am using Ubuntu 6.10 and the version of OOo that comes with that distribution.

Some small testing learned me that you are right on this: OOo does put documents
in the Recent Documents in my Places menu. But, it only does so when I save that
document, not when I only open it and not alter it. That was the behaviour I was
expecting, since, after all, an opened document is a recent document.

So, my feature request is: put not only saved documents in the Recent Documents
of GNOME, but also the opened documents. (I updated the summary to reflect this
change.)

harm,
in my case mere opening the file places it into Recent list (it is the area
you get when you click "Computer" and choose "Recent documents" in "Show",
right?).

It's getting more interesting :) . Sometimes documents show open in the Recent
Documents and sometimes they don't. Fortunately, I figured out when they do and
when they don't.

If you have a document on your desktop and you open it directly from that
location (by using a double click), it shows up in the Recent Documents and in OOo.

But, when you open a document in OOo (via File > Open) and NOT that document is
not added to the Recent Documents. Opening that exact same document directly
from the desktop (not via OOo) does add it to the Recent Documents.

It seems that, when you open a document directly from the desktop, that GNOME
adds the document to Recent Documents and not OOo. But perhaps I am wrong on
that conclusion.

Possible solution:
If this is correct, what should happen (I guess, since I have never taken a look
at the OOo codebase) is that the code to add a document to the Recent Documents
should be moved from saving to opening.

Confirming last conclusion
from harm Wed Jan 17 07:55:57 -0800 2007
- opening the file via File, Open does not add the file to Gnome's "Recent
files" list, but adds it to "Recent files" list in OpenOffice apps.

If you enable the Gnome file picker it seems to add it initially but doesn't
update the list, meaning if it is already on the list it doesn't bump it back up
to the most recently opened document. If you use the built in file picker (not
Gnome) then it doesn't add it to the list. Also, the File->Recent Documents in
OOo doesn't add it to the Gnome list at all.

Any progress on this issue? I use OOo 3.0.1 and the is still same problem. I'm a
student and work a lot with OO and every time i will open my recent essay it's
disappear, because OO didn't updated the Recent list.

Same is with gnome-do, if i open odf with gnome-do Recent list will not be updated.
