Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 73641
In popup comments text with hyperlink invisible
Last modified: 2015-01-14 15:46:25 UTC
When adding a note to a cell, and inserting a hyperlink into that note, the hyperlink does not get displayed in the popup that appears when hovering over the tiny red square of that cell. Normal text of the same note is displayed correctly, however.
sschuberth, can't reproduce. Please provide the document and screenshot.
Hi Daniel, please have a look at this one. Frank

Although I can see the hyperlinks in the note popups of Frank's document, I cannot see them in mine. The way I create a note containing a hyperlink is: - Select a cell and choose Insert -> Note. - In the note editor, enter a URL in plain text, then select it and copy it to the clipboard. - Choose Insert -> Hyperlink, copy the URL from the clipboard to the "Target" field (the "Text" field is already filled in from the selection), then press "Apply" and "Close". - Verify the link is formatted as a link in the notes editor. - Click somewhere in the spreadsheet to make the notes editor disappear. - Verify the link is not visible in the notes popup when hovering over the cell.
I can reproduce the bug in OOo 2.1 on Win XP SP1 when inserting a note to a cell which contains a hyperlink. The hyperlink disappears in the popup that occurs when you hover over a cell. If you instead right-click the cell and click on "show note", the hyperlink will appear on the note that opens. So it seems to only disappear on the popup which opens when hovering over a cell with the mouse.
change target from 2.x to 3.x according to http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Target_3x
Can someone please update the metadata to this issue? This bug is still present in v3.1.1 and does not depend on the platform (I could reproduce it on Kubuntu 09.10 as well). Also, it seems that the bug is not in Calc itself but in a OOo core component - writer notes seem to encounter issues with hyperlinks as well, cf http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=104513 Actually, I am not even sure, how much sense it makes in calc to create hyperlinks in notes anyway. Normally, the note is located outside of the cell it is attached to. As the note disappears if your mouse leaves the corresponding cell, you cannot hoover to click it anyway. Also, even in the edit mode of the note, clicking on the hyperlink does not open the related link adress. For me, the only work-around is to undo the automatic convertion of the adress in a hyperlink
Created attachment 67698 [details] cell A15 does not show hyperlink is not edited; cell A3 shows at least the address (I deleted the hyperlink functionality)
> "Can someone please update the metadata to this issue?" What metadata do you mean? (The "Version" field is meant as "issue found in version"). > "Actually, I am not even sure, how much sense it makes in calc to create hyperlinks in notes anyway." You can make notes permanently visible (right click cell, Show Note).
> > "Can someone please update the metadata to this issue?" > What metadata do you mean? (The "Version" field is meant as "issue found in > version"). I believe risch refes to the "needmoreinfo" in keywords, what more info is needed to fix this?
History says that "kpalagin" added this keyword.
Still reproducible with "Ooo-Dev 3.3.0 multilingual version English UI WIN XP: [DEV300m70 (Build 9478)]"! Can't see any more requirement for more info, so I remoev "needmoreinfo". Although the URL can not be clicked, the URL should be shown during mouseover. So the user can know that the note contains a hyperlink, make it visible using 'Show Comment' from context menu and even click the hyperlink (only after he clicked somewhere into the spreadsheet, what might be an other bug).

Just ran over this bug today (about 7 years later! AOO 4.0.0). After auto-correction the text was missing in the cell-comment. No matter if it makes sense to add hyperlinks to a comment or not, they should show properly.
Some additional information ---------------------------- a) This worked fine with OOo 1.1.5, is already broken in 2.0.2, so a very old regression b) Text with hyperlink in it is visible in permanently visible hyperlinks ('rightclick on cell -> Show Comment'). But if a normally invisible comment pops up when you hover mouse over cell, at the place of the text containing the hyperlink only empty comment area is visible. c) although it's impossible to click the hyperlink in the comment, user should be able to see that there is a hyperlink in the comment when comment pops up d) Onne sample document should be enough, I will obsolete the superfluous ones e) Competitors (I tested with remaining sample document): e1) LibO 4.2 still shows them bug e2) It seems SoftMaker FreeOffice does not support hyperlinks in comment texts e4) Calligra Sheets shows the text with hyperlink in pop up comment
Comment on attachment 42314 [details] Bugdoc I reduce number of sample documents to a single one, obsolete the others
Comment on attachment 42316 [details] Test case with hyperlink in note With this document bug can be reproduced easily: 1. open documen from AOO start center 2. Hover mouse pointer over cell A1 > Comment pops up Bug: second line only whows comment background :-( 3. 'Right Click on comment -> Show Comment' > Comment becomes visible permanently > second line shows text with hyperlink in it :-)
Comment on attachment 67698 [details] cell A15 does not show hyperlink is not edited; cell A3 shows at least the address (I deleted the hyperlink functionality) I think it's crystal clear that the bug is related to the hyperlink function, not to strings in comment looking like a URL. So i obsolete this sample document
Still present in AOO 4.1.1
