Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 74714
Need expanded trademark guidelines
Last modified: 2009-06-18 10:01:50 UTC
The current guidelines at http://www.openoffice.org/about_us/OEM_and_CD.html#trademark are not adequate to help people who need to correctly refer to OpenOffice.org products. For examples of what is needed (just picked more or less at random), see the Mozilla Trademark Policy page, at http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/policy.html or the Fedora Trademark Guidelines, at http://fedora.redhat.com/About/legal/trademarks/guidelines/ At the very least, there should be a clear description of what the correct form is for referring to the product in a formal publication (e.g. see the "Overall Guidelines for Printed Materials and Web Sites" from the Mozilla guidelines).
accepting I did promise to do this and shall. ;-) louis
the discussion for trademark policy is not being conducted in this issue :-). I initiated it on a new list, trademark@council.openoffice.org. I will post here a draft shortly. louis
How is the guideline now? I have a consulting company that help corporate migrate to OOo. So I have some promotional/marketing materials that include the "OpenOffice.org" trademarks. And what if I'd like to put the logo on my name cards, which is purely commercial use.
For permission to use the OOo logo, please write to John or me. We can grant permission on a case-by-case basis. Usually it is being granted. :-)
Closing. A new trademark policy will soon be announced (after being publically discussed).
