Description svennordblad 2007-03-21 10:22:08 UTC
Hello,

I have a problem with a MS Word form that I am using in MS Word Office 97 (see
attached URL). The filled in form i OK in Ubuntu 6.10 Open Office 2.0.4 when
exported from MS Word but not in Open Office 2.1 in Ubuntu 7.04.

An empty form works not so good in 2.0.4 or 2.1 - for example the left
justification in text fields don't function.

Best Regards
Sven Nordblad

I do not understand what you mean by "The filled in form i OK ... when exported
from MS Word but not in...". Could you please define a bit more precisely?

Sven,
I do not understand the process you described above.
Also, what is meant by "left justification in field"?

Open Office Writer 2.2 filled in form (with problems)
Comment 6 svennordblad 2007-03-23 19:51:47 UTC
Hello mru,

I attach one picture from MS Word 97 and one from Open Office Writer 2.2 (don't
bother about earlier versions - we can concentrate on the 2.2).

When I fill in the form in MS Word 97 I travel between the fields with TAB. This
is not possible in Open Office specially not for column #3. In the column #1 it
sometimes succeeds but most often a TAB sign actually seems to be put in the
beginning of the field.

Bets Regards
Sven

Confirming the problem with 2.2m14 - our input fields are not as convinient as
competitor's:
1. We can't do keyboard-only input.
2. We can't do inplace input.

Issue http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=68660 seems to be
related.

Michael,
please see if 68660 can be integrated in 2.3.

OK, then the summary of this issue should be "Not possible to fill in Word97
forms in a convenient way". This is already tracked by issue 68660 as kpalagin
found out correctly.
Here, in this issue we will now handle what Sven called the incorrect "left
justification". This occurs due to the fact, that these fields are correctly
imported with some space characters as content. But this content should be
selected in the Input dialog so that it could be overwritten easily. Does not
work correctly on Windows.
Comment 9 michael.ruess 2007-03-26 10:10:05 UTC
MRU->OS: I was only able to reproduce this issue on Windows, but it looks that
it also might occur on some Unix desktops. The content of an Input field is not
pre-selected in its "Fill-in dialog" when clicked. This may lead to
misunderstandings.
