Description aaime 2002-09-07 15:04:52 UTC
The drawing application sports the ability to align
the text in shapes both horizontally and vertically.
That's fine, but this functionality is buried in the
properties dialog box, I think it should be more readily
avaiable, maybe as a couple of grafical combo boxes in
the toolbars (Microsoft Office has the ability to
configure the horizontal alignement from the toolbar,
but not the vertical one, Smartdraw shows a nice grid (3x3)
with a button for every possible alignement... nice :-)

Andrea, thanks for taking the time to share with us your suggestions.

Could you please list the steps required to get to the menu option
that you mentioned?

In draw you must select the shape, and from
the menu select format, text, in the dialog
box you can select text anchor as you like.
For horizonal alignement, you can double click
the shape and use the toolbar.
What I think is that the text toolbar should be
visibile even when only the shape is selected
(alongside with the other properties like color,
line style and width), and that toolbar should
contain the button needed to control both
horizonal and vertical alignement (Smartdraw
has something similar to a combo that pops up
a grid with nine buttons, one for each possible
combination of hor/ver alignement. If you have
a Windows PC I would suggest to get a trial version
of Smartdraw :-) With and extensive pallette, ability
to edit connection points and have infinite connection
points on a number of shapes is one of my favourite
graphical editor... unfortunately it runs only on Windows...
If you need more info, just ask (and sorry for my bad english :-( )
Ah, BTW, it's not a DEFECT, just an ENHANCEMENT (an usability
issue, that is...)

A nice RFE. Can you please decide what to do?

BTW: The part on having all necessary toolbars visible is going to be
fixed for OOo2.0. Spec:
