Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 76045
writer database stuff crashes when database stuff not present
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:18:02 UTC
See http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=381083. The mail merge seems to crash when libdba680... is not installed. Which is due to our split in -base. Of course, we split more agressive than Sun does (which does no real split at all except some dummy split, but that's another story) so it strictly is no issue for Sun builds but it should be fixed nevertheless. Writer should not crash, it should probably issue a warning or the menu item should be disabled if the needed libs are not there (why do we have a component model?)
Reassigned to HI.
HI->OS: As I think it is about a debian version which would be make this issue invalid. But have a look, could be interesting for you
HI: Yes, the symptom only arrises in the debian version, that's right. But the *cause* is not a bug in the debian version... Why do we have a component model when writer crashes trying to access libdba? Why isn't there (at least) an error message? Besides the fact that your current package split is no incredibly useless (a -base almost only just containing the XML stuff is nonsense, if you do that you could just keep everything in one package. It only makes real sense when you really move the base stuff into -base. But that's another story). So, i will oppose that this issue is INVALID because OOo should not just crash when libdba isn't there because -base is installed.
s/because base is installed/when base isn't installed/
I agree, this issue doesn't qualify for "invalid". Obviously a UNO service we need for MailMerge is missing and Writer doesn't check that. This would be a simple coding error and a crash should be avoidable. Oliver, perhaps we also should disable Mail Merge in that case.
Disabling MailMerge (and maybe other functions) should depend on a configuration setting and not depend on the availability of one or more libraries the Writer doesn't need to know about. I don't know if there is such configuration setting already available.
same happens with Tools->Bibliography database (http://bugs.debian.org/418921)
also Inser->Field->Other->Database
move target to 3.x according http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Target_3x
Reset assigne to the default "issues@openoffice.apache.org".
