Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 76210
Cannot create charts from complex writer tables
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:44:35 UTC
I have a Writer document with a table full of numerical values. Right after the table I want to add a chart. I click on "Insert -> Object -> Chart" and the AutoFormat Chart dialog opens. I select then the data from the table and the Area filed is correctly filled with e.g. <Table1.B3:C4>. The "Next >>" button gets now active. But when I click on this button nothing happens. The create button works but then the data is not taken from the table.
@modir: Sorry, cant reproduce. Pls attach the document.
Created attachment 45131 [details] The table with the problem
I select the fields <Table1.B3:G14> when this "bug" appeared.
@Iha: pls have a look.
The attached document contains a complex writer table. So far it is not possible to create charts from those tables in writer. Also see issue 75742: Re-think if new table model still should forbid Chart creation of complex table and issue 75743: new Chart: complex table will give default chart - should be disabled
This issue should then be closed. The issue reported is currently not supported within OOo and there are two issues (referenced above) which have been created to resolve the shortfall. There is no further need for this issue to be open. User can reopen if this is not the case.
I reopen this bug report again for the following reasons: a) The problem itself is not solved. If you want to have less tickets in the queue then this ticket should be merged with the other two and not just closed. b) In my case the table can be easily changed into a simple table. This would be when the program would only take the first row above the selection as the description/legend. In other words, if the program would let the user choose what he/she wants as the legends then it could be a lot easier to implement. c) As long as it is not possible the program should at least give a nice message to the user to tell him/her why it is not possible to create a chart. Above are two ideas from me. Since I don't know the code I can't tell how easy they are to implement.
I checked with "2.2.1 Multilingual German version WIN XP: [680m18(Build9161)]" and had no problem to create a chart for <Table1.A2:G14>. @modir: still a problem for you with 2.2.1?
@rainer: yes, the problem still exists. I downloaded the english version for Windows XP.
move to 3.x accroding http://wiki.services.openoffice.org/wiki/Target_3x
Confirmed.
Confirmed on Windows XP SP2, OOo2.2, but the complex table can show in MS Office.
This problem exists when the first line of the table contains one or more merged cells.
