Description michael.bemmer 2002-09-10 08:37:20 UTC
The "users" entry only allows searching for login names. That's a real hassle,
because often I only know the real names from emails. Whenever I want to give
users certain permissions, I have this problem. Workaround is to first go to the
SC user administration, where real name search is possible. There I find out the
login name, go back to the IZ user administration and continue. As I said, this
is really annoying and time-consuming. Would be great if the real name search
could be implemented, should be a no-brainer. Thanks.

Michael, you are talking about the UI for IZ user administration, not
the field for assigning issues, right?
Please confirm and then reassign to support@ooo.

Hi Stefan, isn't that the same and I'm just talking about the step one
has to take before one can assign any permissions? I'm talking about
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/editusers.cgi, this is where I edit
user permission for IZ. And there I can't find a way to search for
real names.
Re-assigning this issue to support. Support, if there's another way to
achieve, what I want to achieve, please let me know.

Opened internal RFE.

Hi,
We are now only collecting usernames and email addresses, no longer
"real names."
the effect is to safeguard the privacy of the individual. But this
will make it impossible to accomplish what you want with future
registrants.

Louis, is there any data privacy law that doesn't allow people to
voluntarily give us their real names? We could set it up like that,
optionally giving real names. With the new implementation, if now
somebody has a permission problem and sends me an email using this
real name, I have to ask him for his user login, so I get the data
anyways. This is just a hassle and doesn't make administration fun.

Mike - Allowing for optionally giving real names is an internal Sun
issue that you need to contact Martin Hollmichel (mh@openoffice.org)
about.

Changing whiteboard.

This is not an issue any further. Again, contact st@openoffice.org
(Stefan) or mh@openoffice (martin) for details if necessary.
