Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 77620
DDE linked tables in subfiles from masterdocument print blanc/empty or export blanc/empty to PDF
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:20:10 UTC
I have been advised by a super user at the OOo forum to report this issue. I have problems with masterfiles of which the subfiles are full of DDE linked tables. When printing or exporting to PDF all tables are empty. I use XP with OO 2.0.4 (it does not happen on another system with XP and OO 1.9.104, which I for this reason do not update). I have posted about this issue on the OOo forum several times before without reply. I have tried to export to OOtext_document .ODT but still all the subfiles are linked. Printing this document with the OO 2.0.4 system results also in empty tables. However when I print this .ODT document with the OO 1.9.104 system, which does not have access to all the subfiles, it prints fine. Of course I do not update the links in this case. I would like to attach some example/result files but have no clue how to do that, please advice. Side question (just ignore if this is the wrong place). For me it could be a solution if I could make a 'hard copy' of the masterfile. I mean that layout (headers, footers, etc.) does not change, but text/tables are no longer linked to the subdocuments. In fact have a full copy of the masterfile but no longer any linked text, so it is no masterfile anymore of course. Since the document prints well on the 1.9.104 system, I guess all the text is saved in the .ODT file correctly anyway, not directly depended to the subfiles. So it would be great if I could have this file without all the link information in it. Then I suppose it also would print fine on the OO 2.0.4 system.

Concerning my side question I received useful advise through the forum. It seems that the problem is more related a DDE linked tables problem than a masterfile problem. Steps: 1. Export masterfile as ODT document 2. Open ODT document and update links 3. Break links, edit/links/break link (selected all the links at once, all only of document type) 4. Saved ODT document 5. Export to PDF, the empty tables were still there. 6. Closed ODT document 7. opened ODT document again, it still asks to update links, but now it concerns links of the soffice type, I asume the DDE links. 8. Each link has to be broken seperately (edit/links/break link) 9. Save ODT file 10. Export ODT file naar PDF, result is a correct PDF.
Someone in the forum draw my attention to issue: http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=34241 These issues are related I suppose.
Reassigned to ES.
I could reproduce it with your documents but not from scratch in the current version. Please check a current version recreating your documents. Feel free to reopen if it still happens.

Indeed resulting PDF is no longer blank but some DDE linked tables are completely out of shape or even show up at wrong positions. I add 2 new attachments showing the correct and the incorrect PDF.

Sorry, this time I cannot reproduce the "destroyed table" but instead your original problem "the empty tables". For the "out of shape" tables, please submit a new issue and attach the file you are printing to PDF from. For the empty tables... @OS: it's about a Calc area --- pasted as DDE ---> in a Writer --- inserted ---> in a Master document. So, in the end we have DDE inside of DDE. When updating*** while printing to PDF, those imbricated links get lost. Can we fix that? *** curiously, the table content is not lost when updating *links* manually but *Fields*...
