Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 78135
list of extended mirrors should be kept in sync
Last modified: 2009-06-14 09:09:32 UTC
Hi there, the list of extended mirrors on http://download.openoffice.org/680/index.html should be kept in sync with the list available at http://distribution.openoffice.org/mirrors/ Florian
reassigning to Joost for an update of download/680
ja->floeff: can you help me or do you know someone who can volunteer ? I will attach download.js and mirrors.txt. mirrors.txt contains the list of mirrors which match prerequisites (mirror containing developer + contrib/rc + availability) to be in the downloads.js list
Created attachment 45748 [details] Mirrors list
Created attachment 45749 [details] ../download/680/downloads.js
Thanks for the files. I could help, at the moment I talk with Stefan to get even more mirrors for extended. The text I meant is: "Localized builds with and without a bundled Java Runtime Environment are available from three servers http://mirror.switch.ch/ftp/mirror/OpenOffice/extended/2.2.1rc3/ ftp://ftp.proxad.net/mirrors/ftp.openoffice.org/extended/2.2.1rc3/ http://ftp-1.gwdg.de/pub/openoffice/extended/2.2.1rc3/" Is this one also being created by a script, or is it hard coded in HTML?
now I understand... I think the list of these three mirrors should be deleted from that page and to use the http://distribution.openoffice.org/mirrors/#extmirrors link a bit more prominently. But the download.js file should be updated as well because this file is used by the download page. Updating this file really takes some time and that was the reason why I asked for volunteers.
I can help with this, I wanted to get more into that mirroring stuff nontheless. But it may take some time, so if you don't need it by tomorrow, you can count on me. Maybe some issues have been discussed already, but we should think about how to do the download stuff in the future. The bouncer is a great idea, and most mirrors (even extended mirrors) support HTTP nowadays. We shouldn't have download pages for each and every project, like the new Mac port and every NLC project - but rather use a centralized download site, with one mirror database that also contains links to special downloads, like the Germanophone ISO, the Portable edition, Mac OS X snapshots and so on. Otherwise, it gets more and more complicated. I can only speak of the DE project, but we have: - our own ooodev rsync for PrOOo-Box (page 1), OOoPortable (page 2) - the normal rsync for the releases (page 3) - special links for language packs and RCs (page 4) So, only the DE project has to link to at least for different sites, with four different mirror databases. New extended mirrors are in the queue, so we shouldn't have download trouble in the future - we just need to organize the mirroring. Maybe I should sum up my thoughs on mirrors@distribution? Or is there a better list?
Major changes will occur in the future with the introduction of MirrorBrain and other modifications to the mirroring system. Closing.
