Description tonielson 2007-06-26 17:51:48 UTC
We use OpenOffice at our small business. I'm running MS Vista Home Premium
edition. 2 MB RAM on an AMD dual processor. I've duplicated this problem on a
similar machine and on a more beefed up Dell system.

When you open the spreadsheet, click Edit > Find and Replace, then move the Find
and Replace box around the screen with your mouse, the spreadsheet locks up. If
you click on the box, it will say "Not Responding" and you have to shut down the
application. I've seen this problem with Calc and Write v2.0.4, 2.2, and 2.2.1.
It doesn't have the problem on Windows XP machines with the same versions.

I installed OpenOffice 1.1.5 and I don't see the problem.

I don't see the problem on Linux OpenSUSE 10.2, OOo 2.2.1

tonielson,
please specify if Aero is used and if you experience the problem with Aero
deactivated.
Comment 3 tonielson 2007-07-09 16:16:44 UTC
Yes, I was using Windows Aero, so I switched the appearance to Windows Vista
Basic and tried it again. Had the same result. I changed the appearance to
Windows Standard. Same result. The spreadsheet crashes.

Hi,

could not reproduce.

Please rename your Openoffice2 User profile and start OOo again creating a new
User profile. Does the problem still occur ?

I'm not exactly sure how to rename a user profile. But here's what I did:

1. Went to c:\users\owner\AppData\roaming\OpenOffice.org2 and renamed the user
directory to userold.
2. Opened OpenOffice Calc 2.x. and it asked me to either migrate my user info
from OOo 1.1.5 or enter it myself. I unchecked the box and entered it myself.
3. Opened Edit > Find/Replace and tried to move the box around the screen. The
program crashed again.

Please don't tell me it's not reproducable. It's happening on every system in
our office that runs Windows Vista (6 systems). We don't see the problem with
OpenOffice Suite 1.1.5. It does not happen on the systems running Windows XP
and OpenOffice 2.x. It happens using OpenOffice Calc and Writer. I haven't
tried the other programs in the suite.

The only other system issue I can think of that I haven't already disclose is
that we are all using a dual monitor configuration. I wouldn't think that would
be significant, but it is one other commonality at our office that you might
want to test against.

Same problem: program crash when moving the find and replace box around the
screen in OpenOffice Writer.

Same happens also with formula editor (insert -> object -> formula), navigator
(edit -> navigator).

Same also happens when moving the "Selection" toolbox in OpenOffice Math, a
problem which I saw reported in issue 62256 when were going to report it.

I'm Using OpenOffice 2.3 on 32 bit Vista Small Business, 1 GB RAM.
Using Vista Basic theme.

Can't repro this on Vista Home Basic.

estel1988,
please specify if dual-monitor configuration is used.
Comment 9 estel1988 2007-09-26 19:30:52 UTC
No, I'm using a single monitor.

I'm sending two screen shots: one with info on my system, the second with the
crash happening.

I think this issue has the same root cause as
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=63848.

You should see it fixed in 2.4, specifically in dev build m5 and later ones.
Comment 13 kpalagin 2008-02-21 17:33:40 UTC
Dup of 63848.
Resolving.
