Limitations of macro recorder like Issue 77654 should be mentioned in Online Help
Last modified: 2008-05-21 10:45:32 UTC
Collecting info: what can be recording by macro recorder and what cannot? Please fill in:
ufi: please check issue 81517 : [Meta] [Writer] Macro recorder functions not recorded properly issue 81535 : [Meta] [Calc] Macro recorder functions not recorded properly issue 81537 : [Meta] [Framework] Macro recorder functions not recorded properly
Thank you for submitting the meta issues. That is really helpful. As to the application help, we never documented what cannot be done, but only what can be done. I suppose that for the macro recorder, the list of actions that can be recorded is much smaller than the list of actions that cannot be recorded.
ufi : you are welcome :-)
There are some things that can be said about the functionality in general. The recorder basically records document changes, but it doesn't record opening windows. It records what happens inside a window, no actions carried out in a different window than that where the recorder was started are recorded. Consequently window switching is not recorded also. It also does not record things not related to the document content, e.g. changes made in the "Options" dialog, macro organizer, customizing etc. It does work only in Calc and Writer (but I assume this is widely known). Selections are recorded only if they are done by using the keyboard (cursor travelling), but not when the mouse is used. As it might be possible that somewhere in the future some improvements might happen it's questionable whether it makes sense to document the status quo.
Added the list from mba to file shared/guide/macro_recording.xhp in CWS hcshared12 This gives a good balanced overview about the limitations without going too much into current details that are to be fixed sometimes.
Please verify in CWS hcshared12 Open Help, enter "macros;recording" as index. Find list of limitations near end of the page
list is not present in help of cws: 'hcshared12'
after a second look: is missing in 'base' area .. if you search from 'writer' area text is present
verified in cws
