What are you doing?? You can't be serious! IMO this is one of the most useful options in OOo. And you are removing it? Why??
It is *not* useful. With automatic file extension enabled, when I type the file name as, for example, Report-1.2, I do not get Report-1.2.odt as the resulting filename, but only Report-1.2.
While this change was working as expected in previous builds, in 2.4 rc1 and rc2 the check box is back. See also comments in issue 82083.
This issue is closed automatically and wasn't rechecked in a current version of OOo. The fixed issue should be integrated in OOo since more than half a year. If you think this issue isn't fixed in a current version (OOo 3.1), please reopen it and change the field 'Target Milestone' accordingly.
