Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 82795
Paragraph style dialog appears offscreen
Last modified: 2010-02-08 11:31:16 UTC
I ran OOo writer on a machine with two displays, and positioned the paragraph style dialog on the second display. Later, I ran without the second display. When I opened the paragraph style dialog, it was positioned offscreen, and invisible. I was only able to "find" and reposition it by reconnecting the second display. The dialog should check if it is being positioned offscreen, and move back to a visible location if it is.
Same issue occurs with the Numbering/Bullets dialog.
JW, could you please have a look on this "dual-head" issue? Thanks!
Hello ahadsell because this is a technikal issue too, i have to ask you some questions. first the type of your graficcard. second what do you exactly mean with "Later, I ran without the second display." have you just pluged off the monitor or did you disabled the dualmonitor support in the Operating system too? if you did not disable the dualmonitor support this is not a bug, because OOo can not know that there is no second monitor connected. For the OS (and because it needs the information from the OS the following will count for OOo too) there are still two monitors and the deskttop will be extended over the two screens wether the second is pluged off or turned off or not. if you have disabled the dualmonitor support and your scenario still is valid this will be a bug of OOo.
The graphics card is an ATI Mobility Fire GL 9000, built into an IBM Thinkpad T40p laptop. When I ran without the second display, I had turned off the OS support for the second monitor, by unchecking "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor" on the "Settings" tab of the Display Properties dialog in Windows XP.
hi ahadsell thanks for your quick answer, i will try to reproduce this here.
This is probably a duplicate of 46549.
I have an ASUS laptop with Vista and run into the same problem. I check all sorts of dialogs in writer - format, they all have the same problem. You just get a load bang from Vista and writer seems to hang for ever. When I disconnect the second screen or reboot the laptop without the second screen the second screen is indeed disabled in the OS. For laptop use this is a very troublesome issue, as by nature one doesn't have a second screen when mobile. It is sometimes even embarassing when, in a meeting, one doesn't seem to be able to handle a simple windows PC.

Does not only refer to paragraph dialog. Same root cause as issue 42282. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 42282 ***
