Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 83072
Tools | Language | Chinese translations broken when recording changes
Last modified: 2014-04-14 10:45:19 UTC
Hi, I've a file that is recording (but not showing) changes. When I use Tools | Language | Chinese translations to translate it from Traditional Chinese to Simplified Chinese, some characters are relocated. This is reproducible. It works fine if changes are not recorded. Please see the original file and the translated file attached.

Can reproduce the bug in OOo 2.4.1 Win XP and PCLinuxOS 2008
I inspected the original paragraph and the OOo translated paragraph, the following words were myteriously added to the begining of the paragraph: 欢论å›åŽä¼šè°¢ä¼šè¾¾ä¸ºè®ºå›å‘˜å‚贵会诚 The rest of the words that follows are translated properly in good order. I also tried to look into the original file to see what was deleted earlier, there is no trace that those additional characters were those that were deleted. I rather suspect these are the characters that were taken from the subject passage at ramdom.
It's impossible to reproduce without Chinese Language knowledge, I even can't be sure whether that what I see is what reporter saw. We need commented Screenshots showing details what is wrong and how it should look right. Can someone contribute complete information how to reproduce the problem due to <http://wiki.openoffice.org/wiki/QA/HowToFileIssue>? I wonder whether this really is a Writer specific problem, with 4.0.1 "Tools | Language | Chinese translations" also exists for Calc?
I was able to replicate the bug as reported by chengwee in comment 5 on AOO401m5 (Build: 9714) Rev. 1524958 on Windows 8 Pro x64 by following these steps: 1. Opened the file supplied by freemant in Writer 2. Used "Tools -> Language -> Chinese Conversion" 3. Selected "Traditional Chinese to simplified Chinese" After the conversion, additional text (in simplified Chinese) not found in the original traditional Chinese text was prepended into the paragraph. However, no text was relocated as freemant described. In addition, an additional simplified Chinese character was inserted a few characters afterward. Aside from the added text, all of the remaining text remained as traditional Chinese characters and was not converted into simplified glyphs. I also attempted to replicate the bug in the following manner: 1. Copying the text in the file supplied by freemant 2. Opened a new Writer file 3. Used "Edit -> Paste Special" and selected "OpenOffice Writer" 4. Used "Tools -> Language -> Chinese Conversion" 5. Selected "Traditional Chinese to simplified Chinese" And this resulted in the original text correctly converted into simplified Chinese characters without any abnormalities.
