Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 83147
Caption cannot be resized without changing the font size of the formula it encloses
Last modified: 2007-10-31 09:45:17 UTC
When creating a formula and then adding a caption to it resizing the caption (making it wider) causes the font in the formula to scale as if its an image, but a formula is fundamentally text, not an image, so its size should be fixed (or at least chosen from selected sizes like any other font). This bug means that a short formula with a long caption will always result in a multi-line caption, attempting to resize it to put the text on a single line (so it goes a bit past the formula) results in resizing the actual font in the formula, and they cannot be unbound. To reproduce: 1) Insert->Formula, make it short, like 'a=x+y' 2) right-click the formula->Caption, make it a bit long, like 'this is something you should know' 3) Try and make the caption stretch past the formula a bit, it can't be done There should be an option to at least to at least unlock the size requirements of the caption so the caption can be made wider without affecting the (so the formula is maybe centered over the caption text instead of stretched over it). Another option might be to treat formulas more like text in this context and let the size of the characters be independent of the size of their containers (the same way resizing the caption does not increase the size of the caption text)
