Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 8331
Translation of "Installing PostgreSQL on Windows"
Last modified: 2004-10-19 11:47:48 UTC
As requested on the dev@documentation-List I'll do a first translation of the above named URL into english. I'll attach this translation to this issue as Writer-File and mark the Issue as started, as soon as the file is available. The original source document can be found via cvs at de/www/doc/handbuch/datenquellen/tech_pgsql.xml or via www at http://de.openoffice.org/doc/handbuch/datenquellen/tech_pgsql.xml (flat xml, pics are linked)
Created attachment 3230 [details] a 1st english translation
I have just attached a 1st translation into english, as requested. Pleas don't use this text "as is", because I'm not speaking native english. My english writing is rather bad :-( Take care for some dialog items (like "Systemsteuerung" etc.) I don't know the correct english names of some objects, because I'm using german OOo and Windows. Andre
Created attachment 3329 [details] edited version of first translation
I have done some small editing on André's text and uploaded the result as an attachment. I left revision marking on, so my changes and notes should be obvious. All he has to do is to accept them all:-)
Created attachment 3330 [details] revised version
Acceped all changes except one (don't know, what'S better "sequence" or "autoincrement"). Notes have been edited.
OK. I think this next attachment solves most of the problems. All that remains is to translate German smartquotes into English ones. I'm not sure how to do that. I have made a couple of small changes that I missed the first time round, edited further some of the notes, and compromised about autoincrement. Absolutely no jokes about autoexcrement thank you.
Created attachment 3334 [details] Further edited version. OK except for smartquotes, I think
Created attachment 3336 [details] few changes .. what are smartqoutes?
Smartquotes are the fancy double quote characters. I'm not sure if I can do them in IZ. But the point is that a German double quote, at least as you have them, starts at the bottom of the line, and an English one at the top, where yours (and ours) end. I'm not sure how to change this, since OOo at present has a broken search and replace. Otherwise I am reupkoading the reupdated version, which seems to me just about perfect. We could work round the smartquotes by putting everything between them in a distinctive typeface. But mabe we should leave them there until OOo can handle wildcard replacements -)
Ah .. I got the point. Most of this smartquotes are used for dialog-elements (like names of Buttons, Textboxes etc). All these Elements have a unique style (puh .. what is this thing called in english, ahh character style??). Change the style named "Dialog" and you change the typeface of these items.
Created attachment 3338 [details] Mainly cosmetic changes and a spell-check using en_CA
Created attachment 3344 [details] Alex's version with my smart quotes
Created attachment 3350 [details] Almost all changes accepted, some remarks added
May I mark this issue as Fixed and post it to dev@documentation?
Created attachment 3481 [details] think, it's finished
Only a few remarks ae left. Consider this as done
closing (if somebody needs this, thre is a more actual german version available)
reopen on request for PDL
Created attachment 13484 [details] PDL Notice added - the content is out of date, esp. Versions of drivers ...
the most recent file (2004-02-27) is under PDL. Alex, Andrew: feel free to add yourself as contributor as you have done sone work on it. The content is outdated (same as in 2002), a more recent (german) version is available at: http://de.openoffice.org/source/browse/de/www/doc/handbuch/datenquellen/ Main Changes since 2002: - Versions of driver / software packages - cygipc is now part of cygwin and called ipc-daemon2 - "Crypt" - lib has to be selected manually in recent cygwin versions - mention of PostgreSQL's schema support when creating a table from within OOo - changes in "Known Problems" - new url for ODBC driver
as it seems, that no one is interested in doing something about this document, I'll close (again) as won't fix. Notice sent to the dev@documentation list
Re-opening and changing some of the criteria. Afterall this document as near as I can tell is *NOT* exclusive to windows. I will attempt to get a translator and put the document on-line when and if as English version comes.
close again, because there is no activity. There is no need to translate anymore, as it is really outdated (PostgreSQL 8 will be published soon and have a native Windows build / Installer)
