Description rvjcallanan 2008-02-20 16:04:22 UTC
The sequence below causes OpenOffice applications to hang and is easily
repeatable. I believe this to be a general issue although I have only observed
it with Writer and Calc.

1. First disable the OpenOffice QuickStart feature by removing the
quickstart.exe shortcut from Start Menu->Programs->Startup folder.

2. Shutdown and restart Windows for good measure.

3. Create a Test folder on local drive containing two Calc files called File1
and File2. Make sure these files each contain a few rows and columns of data and
save.

4. Close down ALL OpenOffice applications and wait for about 30 seconds.

5. Double-click on File1 in Windows Explorer (to open it).

6. Enter a lot of new data in File1 e.g. by copying/pasting row blocks many many
times.

7. In one fast sequence, save File1, close the complete Calc application and
double-click on File2 in Windows Explorer.

8. You should notice an hourglass which is indicative of an OpenOffice hang
(although no OpenOffice windows appear). If you check the Processes Window in
the Windows Task Manager, you will observe multiple soffice.exe/soffice.bin
pairs for each new attempt to open a file. The only way to get out of this
situation is to manually terminate all instances.

Note: This problem does not seem to happen when the OpenOffice QuickStart
feature is enabled, however, this may be simply due to the faster open times.

I originally voted for this issue because I thought it might be related to issue
7037 , however we have not had this problem any longer since about version 2.4.
Removing my vote.

Is this issue still valid in OOo 3.1?
Comment 3 Olaf Felka 2010-08-18 14:21:29 UTC
As I think that this is not a typical use case I would like to close this issue.
Feel free to reopen the issue if you can reproduce the problem with the recent
OOo 3.2.1 version.
