This is related to Issue 11038 (could not reopen it so I create this one).

It has been said in issue above that the update style feature works only for the
currently selected text. This is not what is implied by the help file:

Either this is a bug or the help file needs rework.

This "only" happens when a different style in the Stylist is selected than the
one used in the document. 

MRU->FL: it should be cleared out, if "Update Style" should apply changed
formatting to a style selected in the Stylist or if the style currently in use
will get the changes. Otherwise, the mentioned help page should be changed.
