Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 88668
Startmenu Shortcut icons corrupted after installation
Last modified: 2013-08-07 15:26:05 UTC
Hello, on my computer, I'm working with OO since version 2.0, having installed all following versions: 2.1, 2.2, 2.3 and now 2.4. -------------Problem: In 2.3 and now again in 2.4, the icons and links (respectively "shortcuts") in the Windows start menu don't work after installation. _All_ of them have the same non-OO icon and contain this target link instead of a path to an .exe-file: ::{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D}\::{416651E4-9C3C-11D9-8BDE-F66BAD1E3F3A} -------------Tried actions to fix it: 1. I did a complete uninstall of OpenOffice by the Windows control center. 2. I did several new trials to install, as well "Full install" and "user-defined". 3. I searched the Windows registry and deleted all entries containing "openoffice" -------------Further details: I searched the registry for both keys that are contained in the start menu shortcuts. The results are... 20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D contained in: - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Shell Extensions\Approved - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{20D04FE0-3AEA-1069-A2D8-08002B30309D} (showing to desktop/workplace ("Arbeitsplatz") 416651E4-9C3C-11D9-8BDE-F66BAD1E3F3A contained in: - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{416651E4-9C3C-11D9-8BDE-F66BAD1E3F3A} (showing to Nokia Phone Browser) - HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\CopyHookHandlers\Nokia Most insterestingly, the icon that all OO-programs do have in the startmenu, is exactly the one from "Nokia Phone Browser", a Windows Explorer extension to show the file content of my Nokia mobile. But how can this happen by the OO-installer, how are the shortcuts to the exe-Files created? Bye.

I can't confirm a similar effect. The Starmenu entries have always been correct. I would assume that this might be caused by some MS Installer faults on your system. Maybe you can get some further help in the according mailing lists: users@openoffice.org (users@de.openoffice.org the german mailing list) or dev@openoffice.org, the developer forum.
Hello of. thank you. I tried the mailing list and got the guess to try 1. erasing the files under C:\Documents and settings\<user>\Applications\OpenOffice.org2\user\registry and ...\config 2. do a repair install Unfortunately, this didn't help. I could reproduce the buggy behaviour on another Win2000-PC: 1. install Nokia PC Suite, e.g. the current version (http://europe.nokia.com/A4144905) No matter what telephone... 2. install OpenOffice You will have the broken start menu entries. Then uninstall PC Suite and install OO again, if necessary as repair installation. Now, everything is fine. Both PCs have Windows 2000 SP 4 with all the current fixes from Microsoft including newest MS Installer. - I does not seem to happen on XP. - No other application (except OO) is affected by Nokia PC Suite. You may say that Win2000 is becoming rare, but so are many languages supported by OO. Do you have any Win2000-machine available to give it a try yourself?
confirmed
If you install 'Nokia PC Suite' first the OOo StartMenu links are broken as described here. This will happen with OOo 3.x to. I wonder if this is caused by OOo or by the Nokia application.

Hm, really a very strange problem. The links in start menu are created by the Windows Installer using the table "Shortcut" in the msi database. There is no special behaviour, nothing problematic. is -> of: can you please provide a log file of the ooo installation? Installation of OOo with: msiexec.exe /i <ooodatabase> /l*v <path_to_logfile>
