Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 89650
Distorted page view w/ TripleHead2Go 3840x1200 resolution
Last modified: 2009-01-19 09:57:47 UTC
Using a MacBook Pro running Leopard with a Matrox TripleHead2Go. The device allows multiple monitor support by telling the operating system that there is a single large virtual display. In this case the display is 3840x1200. When opening a document with OOo 3.0 beta, the aspect ratio of the page is all distorted. Even though Writer is still set for 8.5x11, the page appears wider than it is long, and the text is stretched out across the abnormally wide page.

MRU->HDU: could you please have a look if this is reproducible in your MAC environment. Maybe it is also the reason / root cause for issue 89488, where we did not have additional information.
In this case the Mac OSX CoreGraphics methods CGDisplayPixelsWide, CGDisplayPixelsHigh and CGDisplayScreenSize seem to return incorrect values: CGDisplayPixelsWide seems to be adjusted, but the CGDisplayScreenSize result doesn't match. That's a bug in the Matrox TripleHead2Go driver. The best would be to have it fixed. There is no way to calculate the resolution of the main display if the OSX core graphics API returns bad values. If there was a way to tell that the return values are bogus we'd ignore them...

from matrox: RE: Tech Support - United States - General - Request ID: 17132†From: Technical Support (graph_ts@matrox.com) Sent: Thu 12/04/08 6:52 AM To: grlockwood@hotmail.com Hi George, Please note that the Matrox Triplehead2go has no drivers for the Mac environment therefore it would not be a Matrox driver issue. The Triplehead2go is simply a monitor with a large resolution. What you seem to be experiencing is an issue with the application being able to display on such a high resolution. > The Triplehead2go is simply a monitor with a large resolution I read somewhere on the Matrox website that they do this by faking the device resolution of the primary monitor's EDID information. That would be a good idea when also the EDID's reported DisplaySize was extended accordingly. Either that or if there was a way the application could tell that that the reported DisplaySize was bogus and has nothing to do with the resolution.

I added another heuristic to workaround this TripleHead2Go problem by discarding bogus resolutions in CWS vcl97.
Can anyone who has a TripleHead2Go device confirm that the fix works? @pl: please verify by reviewing the changed heuristic otherwise
verified (knock on wood)
My setup: TH2Go ( TripleHead2Go )Resoulution: 5040x1050 ( 3x1680x1050 ), XP x64, OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 , OOO300m9 (Build:9358) Installed 18.Jan.2009 The problem in general (for me) is that OOo opens to all 3 screens at all when clicking on the Maximize button. It`s supposed to maximize at the lokal screen. All other programs do, except iTunes and for some Adobe programs like Photoshop and others that you can read about in the first post here: http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=15286&highlight= and http://www.widescreengamingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14972&highlight= I have contacred Matrox about the problem with Adobe Photoshop, but they say they are not allowed to make changes to Adobe`s software, implying that there is nothing wrong with the TH2Go. An exaple as it should work: In Media Player Classic, if I click the Maximize button, MPC maximizes to the edges of the screen it`s located at. Then, if I duble-click inside the MPC, the MPC window dissapares, leaving only the movie inside the frame of that single screen. If I duble-click inside MPC without maximizing the window first, MPC maximizes to all 3 screens making me able to watch a movie on all 3 screens. The Adobe progams, iTunes and OpenOffice are the only programs I have experienced this problem with.
Correction: In my desperate quest to solve my problems with Photoshop, I had changed the settings in Matrox PowerDesk-SE (Desktop Management). OpenOffice works as it should whith these setting: I have the 3 first options Un-checked. -Check "Open program windows:" - In display 1 - [2,1] -Check "Center dialog boxes and message boxes:" - In parent display -Check "Maximize windows:" - In the display containing the window (Info: Any setting here eccept the default setting, will prevent OpenOffice from expanding to all displays, eccept when holding Ctrl. -Check "Maximize across all displays (while holding [Ctrl])" -Check "Use Matrox Centering Service" The problem is still there for the other applications. Sorry for any inconvenience I may have created with my earlier post.
