Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 90704
With data series in rows, chart wizard gets data references wrong
Last modified: 2013-02-24 21:20:37 UTC
See attached spreadsheet. The column based data presents good default charts whatever chart type is chosen. The row based data 'fails' at the pie chart and others. Manually fixing the data ranges works, but is a pain, and will put off newbies evaluating OOo If possible, when the wizard detects and suggests (first row as label) *and* not(first column as label), could it be made to default to 'data series in rows' As the expensive Marketing consultants say, "Every Little Helps", and hopefully not too difficult. Thanks Chris

Oops - I meant to downgrade the priority. Now I can't change it. Sorry.

I agree that this is a major usability issue. I fixed as follows for Charts in Calc: If only one row with values is selected the ranges are taken from rows, otherwise from columns. I don't changed anything in Writer. Having a single row in Writer selected created a Chart from rows already. For further changes open separate issues please.
@Thomas, please verify in CWS chart29.
One small error: in case of exactly two rows of data and one row as label the default switches to rows what was not intended here. Thanks Thomas for finding this with the test tool.
Ok the above small error is fixed now also. @Thomas, please verify in CWS chart29.
Seen ok in cws chart29 -> verified
