Keeping track of versions of a document can be really useful, especially for
legal documents or ones living documents that many people edit. The compressed
file format OOo uses could be leveraged (I'll attach an example) by saving the
previous versions sequentially with a date/time code and version number. Word
2000 has this functionality implemented very nicely.

Also, this function would be useful for all OOo documents not just writer.
