Description wdonne 2008-08-28 17:14:30 UTC
Create a table with one row and two columns. Insert another table in the second
cell and give it also one row and two columns. Insert yet another table in the
second cell of the second table. If you put the cursor in the first cell of the
second table you can select that complete table. Now, remove the empty paragraph
that follows the third table. The selection of the complete second table will no
longer be possible. Only its first cell will be selected.

MRU->AMA: open attached document, place cursor in Table2:A1, press Ctrl-A
several times -> not possible to select more than this only cell.

I successfully replicated the bug in Open Office 2.4.1 under Windows XP
Professional running service pack 2. I first tested the initial file that was
attached, and confirmed the second column in the second table cannot be selected
at all. As a work around, you can use the ctrl-a hotkey. It appears to select
this area, but you cannot manually click it.

To see the extent of this bug, I tested it on various different styles of nested
tables. I made sure to include all these tables in the file attached. In the
first table I created the nested tables in the left column instead of the right
column, and the bug still occurs. I, also, tried making tables that have two
columns and two rows, but the bug did not reappear in this case.

In the next case, I added a fourth nested table. I manually deleted the
paragraph in the 3rd table that contained the 4th table, and I could not select
that area. I also deleted the paragraph in the second table, and once again the
bug persisted, so this resulted in two occurrences of the same bug in the same
table in two different spots. I also deleted the paragraph in the first table,
but the failure did not reappear, since I was still able to select this area.

Next, I created just two tables, and it did not replicate the bug in this case.
I also created tables of one row and three columns, and deleted the paragraph in
the second table, and the bug appeared again. In addition, I made tables that
had only one column and two rows, and the bug reappeared.

Lastly, I tested whether each nested table had to be the exact same for the bug
to reappear. So I first created a table with 1 row and 2 columns, then the
second table with 2 rows and 1 column and the third table with 2 rows and 1
column. The bug reappeared yet again.

So, to conclude, it seems that you can delete paragraphs in the second table and
beyond, and the number of nested tables has no effect on whether the bug appears
or not. This bug also holds true when referring to columns.
