Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 93700
Impress unreasonably limits the position of images
Last modified: 2008-09-10 09:08:06 UTC
When importing presentations from Powerpoints, I run into a problem with some particular presentations that use large scanned images that are placed in such a way that most of the image is off the 'page'. Clearly in Powerpoint, this is not a problem, and images are allows to be wherever the user likes. However, in Impress, there seems to be a hard limit on the distance by which an image can be allowed to 'jutt out' off the top or bottom of the page. This hard limit results in incorrectly imported Powerpoint documents. For example, a page containing a table scanned from a textbook combined with a red circle to indicate the necessary information can be imported incorrected, with the scanned image moved to an 'acceptable' position during the import process, with the result that the red circle no longer is positioned over the text of interest. The hard limit on the placement of objects should be relaxed in so way, so that importing of powerpoints of this type is not broken.
