Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 94012
After line break in numbered headings text should be aligned with text in first line
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:21 UTC
When a title format text is wrapped, the second line starts at the beginning of the text, as expected. Nevertheless, when the title is numbered, the wrapping goes back to the location of the number, instead of starting at the same place as the text in the first line (as it happens with bulleted or numbered paragraphs). Wrapping at the beginning of text (as done by competing applications) is much more aesthetic, and it is coherent with paragraph numbering style of OpenOffice. I proposed that wrapping is changed to start under the first letter of the text in the first line of the title.
MRU->FL / OD: I do not know about the standard in typography, but I cannot imagine that it is desired to have the second line of a numbered heading to be aligned with the number...
It is how MS Office tries to do it, but it does not work specially well in Ms Office. A .doc document, when opened in OpenOffice 3.0, maintains its indentation the same as in MS Office (probably because it has the MS Office heading styles).
