Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 9402
AutoCorrect replacement text list management tool
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:38:26 UTC
I want to use two sources for autocorrect Text (one local and other in a network drive). When I add the network drive in the path for AutoCorrect Text, the text there only is used if no other local path is included. In this case, my local texts are lost. Is there a way to solve this problem? Other thing I couldn't find, was a way to import the replacment texts from WinWord Templates. Regards LuÃs
Here I am again: One possible solution for this problem, would be to give the user the option to select the path/file where each new autocorrect text entry was stored. Regards LuÃs
Thank you for using and supporting OOo. I apologize but I'm not sure which feature you are referring to. It sounds like you are referring to the autocomplete feature ( ie, start typing a word and the software will fill in the rest of the word ). If you are referring to this feature, OOo generates the list of autocomplete words dynamically each time you use OOo. This list is not saved or loaded.
Hi there! Thanks for your reply. In fact, the feature I'm talking about is the one that you can access with: Tools -> Autocorrect -> Replace In this table you enter text to be replaced as you type. You have two fields: "Replace" and "With". These entries are stored in files that are created in the folders that you enter in Tools -> Options -> OpenOffice.org -> Paths -> AutoCorrect. When you have a "user" path defined, all the new entries are stored there, despite of other "shared" paths defined. Also, the entries that previously existed in the "shared" folder aren't used. What I'm saying is that, when you have more than one path there, you don't have control over the actual path where each entry is stored, and which folders are read while you type. In other words, you can't decide if a new entry should be only yours, or shared by all users in the network. And also, you can't decide if you want to use only your entries or also the shared ones. Best regards LuÃs
Luis, thanks for the update. This is a tricky enhancement request in my opinion. My theory is that OOo saves all Autocorrect replacement text to the users private "list" because the shared list may not writable by the user ( ie in Unix installs, the shared files should probably be read only access for all users except the owner ).
User summary AutoCorrect issues I changed my mind. This is more likely a feature request. Summary User would like OOo to have tools to manage the Autocorrect replacement text lists. Features requested: 1. Switch between lists, without having to change pathes. 2. Merge 2 different lists at the same time without changing the lists themselves. 3. Ability to manage the shared list. ( I know of a manual workaround, but I'm not going to publish it. )
JA->FT: reassigned as RFE. The user should be able to decide which autocorrection path is used as preferred autocorrection entry
Hi there: I have some more questions about this issue. As is, I canÂ’t find a purpose for a shared “autocorrect” text path, because, if there is no way of adding entries to it, there is no way to use it. Other problem that I found is that a change in the path entry is only used after exiting the application and entering again. Since I couldnÂ’t create a shared source, I couldnÂ’t test the following situation: If I have entries in both a user and a shared path, are both sources available at the same time, as you type? Regards LuÃs
Set target (based on PCD relevance)

I can provide an easy explanation for a shared autocorrect path: Entering items to a waybill with a barcode scanner without a full database/inventory behind it. I'd love to be able to simply scan a user defined barcode and have formatted (!) autotext inserted into a table, ideally including tabs in order to fill in an item description in the first cell and an item price in the following cell, same row. Text needs to be formatted so that special symbols like checkbox squares can be used which would be a great help in checking packing lists of items with their accessories. The network table is administrator configured, so that all users have the same text on their machines when packing stuff and writing waybills. Ideal for me would be a writer table that holds the barcode content in cell 1 of each row, and the replacement text in the following cells of the same row.
