Description unfortunate101 2008-11-03 00:22:52 UTC
While using OpenOffice, I managed to successfully make a 30-page .ODT document.
However, I needed this document somewhere else - but that place does not have
OpenOffice, it has Microstoft Office.
While converting to a Windows XP .DOC document, the program stalled in about
10% of the progress bar (Exporting). Then it displayed a popup message that
the "C++ Runtime had been requested to terminate this application in a unusual
way". After pressing the OK button, OpenOffice took some time to close.
There was a Recovery period on the next time I used OpenOffice, but it only had
the .ODT file, which is no good.
I repeated the process several times, with the same result.
I also repeated it with the minimum amout of other applications running - same
result.
If you manage to resolve this problem, can you send me the .DOC file by e-mail?
Thanks.
P.S. Request for the .ODT file will be answered ASAP - please leave a receiving
e-mail address. (I can't work out how to attach to this issue).

Sorry - the file is 96 MB big.

A 30 page document of 96 MB? Sounds as if there are a lot of grapahics in it...
does the crash also happen without graphics in the document?
Comment 3 unfortunate101 2008-11-06 17:25:58 UTC
Yes, it has multiple graphics, typefonts and a few tables.
When I deleted all the graphics and typefonts, the size changed to 7.66MB XD
It has no problem saving & exporting that document to .DOC format - it finsihed
in 10 seconds.
When I went on Microsoft Office and OpenOffice and copied everthing over,
Microsoft Office ignored all the pictures and typefonts - I wasn't expecting
perfection anyway.
I think the problem is in the size (wonder how I reached that conclusion?)
But deleting the pictures and typefonts is no good, it would take me quite a
while to add them all to Microsoft Word at the right size and place.
Carry on suggesting - that's what I started moaning for anyway.
:)

Do you have the possibility to place th 96 MB file on an ftp server?
Comment 5 unfortunate101 2008-11-13 22:28:40 UTC
Not really, but I could put it on a server like megaupload.com
By the way, I exported it to a .pdf and it was fine. (.doc not now needed)0
Comment 6 michael.ruess 2008-11-19 14:52:08 UTC
Yes, this could be a solution; a site like megaupload should give us the
possibility to exchange the file. Please post the URL here when you have done
so; thanks a lot!

Here's the link, sorry for the waits:

@MRU: confirmed with m9 on XP. The document is a memory "torture" anyway. ;)
I guess the images are uncompressed HiRez but OOo shouldn't necessarily crash
while exporting...
Comment 9 unfortunate101 2008-11-23 14:54:07 UTC
Okay, uncompressed high-resolution pictures are a no-no for OpenOffice...
So, is there any fixes to be done on your end or do I just change the
resolution of the pictures next time?
Comment 10 michael.ruess 2008-11-25 14:45:37 UTC
MRU->HBRINKM: the document is in my issue doc folder. I just managed to truncate
it to half size. Smaller ones did not lead to this runtime error, so it seems to
be a memory management problem during export.
