Description jetgraphics 2008-11-15 03:12:29 UTC
Bug Description:
I load odt. file.
File appears in OOo.writer
Program freezes.
In directory, I see ".~lock.filename.odt#"
Wait several minutes - - -
Alert beep
"General Internet Error has occurred"
Error message window will not close.
Requires shut down from Task Manager.

Error occurs in 2.3, 2.4 and 3.0 versions.
I suspect that there is a broken link in the file. But I cannot determine that,
since the program freezes.

I checked with "Ooo 3.0.0 RC3 Multilingual version German UI WIN XP: [OOO300m8
(Build9357)]" and can confirm the reported problem. After some minutes I get an
error Message "A general Error in the internet sector occured" (translated from:
Ein allgemeiner Fehler im Internetbereich trat auf").

The problem seems to be caused by an OLE object in the document (can be selected
from Navigator).

I was able to open the document without any problem after I removed the OLE object.

May be this is a DUP of Issue 7553 or Issue 63315?
Comment 3 jetgraphics 2008-11-15 17:12:04 UTC
Due to program freeze, cannot locate, edit or remove OLE object. NAVIGATOR goes
non responsive when OLE is selected. (Vers. 2.3)

When loaded by Vers. 2.4, or 3.0, on a LAN Connected machine, the program
freezes before activating NAVIGATOR to find the errant OLE object.

And why would the OLE object cause an internet error?

Is there some setting that would resolve this bug issue?

The original file was created by copying an internet page into it. I have never
had a problem copying an internet page into WordPerfect.

I tried with text from <http://canada.theoildrum.com/tag/wind>

steps to reproduce:
1. Open URL
2. Search Page for "Birds" to find the text
3. Mark contents: click in front of fast "!" and drag mouse pointer with pushed
left mouse button until first "F" in heading of next article will be marked.
4. Press <cntrl>+<c>
5. open nes OOo WRTER text document
6. click into document
7. <cntrl>+<v>
expected: all contents should be visible
actual: in table left from text "This post was written by Alan Drake in ..."
only a placeholder appears for "object1"
8. Menu 'File -> Save as - browse for suitable folder - select name "test1.odt"
   <ok>
9. make navigator visible
10. Go to "OLE objects" in navigator and doubleclick "Object1"
Placeholder will eb slected as expected
11. Press key "Delete" to delete object
12. close OOo
13. Try to open "test2.odt" from WIN
EXPLORERhttp://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=62550
It should open without problems as expected
14. close OOo
15. Try to open "test1.odt" WIN EXPLORER
contents appears as expected, but after a short momentt sand clock appears
    and OOo hangs
So we know that that OLE object "somehow" is the reason

I'm also able to reproduce the problem with a small part of the web page
containing only little more than the object. It seems to be some kind of "form".

I did my tests with I checked with "Ooo 3.0.0 RC3 Multilingual version German UI
WIN XP: [OOO300m8
(Build9357)]".

Someone with more knowledge than me should find out
- how that hang appears
- whether it's a DEFECT or whether an Enhancement Request is required
- whether the problem is related to or a DUP of an other Issue with
  similar www contents problem

MRU->MAV: please ave a look. It seems that OOo is not able to rsolve the target
link of the floating frame in the attached document.
