Description eh4420 2008-11-23 06:44:24 UTC
In 3.0, when a spreadsheet document written in English MS Excel (.xls) was
opened in Trad. Chinese Calc, the cells with time format changed from English to
Chinese.
i.e. 10:00 AM (in Eng MS Excel) -> 上午10:00 (in Chi Calc)

In issue 91414, Blueice7 mentioned that this is the expected behaviour. However,
I reckon that this is an unacceptable feature, and so requesting a modification
or enhancement of it.

Working in an environment where people come from different country around the
world, English is expected for public communication. It is not professional if I
received a file written by someone using English MS Word, and presenting or
printing it in a meeting, when it changed to another language.

At minimum, there should be a choice to select whether to display the time and
date in the original language, or change it to the language according to the Ooo
language pack (as the current situation).

Changing subcomponent..

The described behavior is on purpose and will not be changed. A number format
that has no locale assigned displays the value according to the locale in which
the document is loaded. If the value shall be displayed using a fixed locale,
assign a format with locale information. Also in Excel that is possible by
selecting from the Locale list box for Time formats.

Btw, in OOo the format displayed does not depend on the language pack, but on
the locale the program runs in, respectively the locale set under
Tools->Options->LanguageSettings->Languages.

Closing.
