Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 99359
Language-dependent and irrelevant words in the vendor-defined [All] dictionaries
Last modified: 2017-05-20 11:35:20 UTC
Vendor-defined "All language" user dictionaries contain language-dependent and irrelevant words: user-defined dictionary "soffice": Ahrendt API, Applet, Applets, AutoAbstract, … Campari … deinstall etc. user-defined dictionary "sun": doughterboard doughtercard email … etc. Please, remove these words from the [All] dictionaries, add to the language-specific (user-defined or general) dictionaries or report them to the dictionary developers.
Not an i18n / locale data issue. @sba: who's responsible for those dictionaries? And isn't this a lingucomponent project's issue instead?
Confirming. The original idea was that the office is a part of the computer and internet age that brings new words "into all languages". Really ALL Languages? - There are for sure exceptions, so this must be rethought. Several words got added to these dictionaries in order to NOT confuse the users of office related documents, (demo documents, templates, office usage and programming documentation: In the API documentation, "API" should not be marked as wrong by the spell checker. To collect such words in a "Computer-related term" dictionary might be one solution. As nemeth wrote, this should be a more user-specific thing. SBA->VA: I spoke to MBA about this. We can not tell how exactly this shall be solved. Removing "obvious" overload (i.e. "Ahrendt") makes sense. But where exactly to stop and how to provide feasible solutions? - This one needs further discussion (maybe user feedback?) to find solutions.
