From a mail (se URL) from Andrea Scavolini on the dev list:

"If we want to create something different from MS Project, what we need
to do is to be more flexible against different tecnique of planning.

For example, pert/gantt technique is perfect for sequential vs
parallel planning.

But in a lot of situations (i.e. Agile Methodologies...) what you have
to do to manage a project is to make a list of organized tasks (by
argument...) giving them resources and PRIORITY.

This is really close to what a common project tool does, but enforcing
this with views (colors for priority...) and trying to integrate it
with timeline would be a great result for oopm."
