Description hennerdrewes 2009-02-23 08:08:08 UTC
I opened a database in writer through View, Data Sources. When scrolling the
columns horizontally, the display gets garbled.

Noticed on Vista Sp1. Attaching screenshots.

Reassigned to "DB access".
Comment 4 Frank Schönheit 2009-02-23 12:20:05 UTC
I really think we recently fixed this in one of our CWSes, but can't remember
which one. Also, the fact that it happens in OOO310m1 irritates me, the fix
should have been in the master already. Hmm.
Comment 5 Frank Schönheit 2009-02-23 12:43:30 UTC
just tried in OOO310.m1 (and m2) on Windows XP, cannot reproduce.

It might make a difference *how* you scroll (clicking onto the arrow, clicking
onto the free space of the scroll bar, dragging the scroll bar, traveling with
the keyboard, maybe more), so please elaborate.
Comment 6 hennerdrewes 2009-02-23 13:48:40 UTC
Sorry, my fault. I was convinced that I saw this in 310_m1, but apparently I got
confused with all the versions I was testing.

Although there seems to be a small problem left. When columns are scrolling
leftwards, the text suddenly appears somehow bold. It looks like some extra
repaint with a one pixel offset, or so.

Comment 8 Frank Schönheit 2009-02-23 20:22:59 UTC
hmm, don't see this either. I suppose that's still Vista. Might have to do with
theming, but I fear I'm out, I don't have access to Vista.
Comment 9 hennerdrewes 2009-02-23 21:28:34 UTC
Actually I noticed this also on XP.

If I scroll right (the columns moving to the left), a previously visible column
gets the bold effect. If a column gets into the view area for the first time, it
is displayed correctly.

But strangely enough, the Pages column is also displayed correctly (see
screenshot), even if scrolled several times.
Comment 10 Frank Schönheit 2009-02-24 08:03:43 UTC
The "Pages" column probably uses another control to display its content, which
could explain the difference.

On XP, if you change your desktop theme to "Windows classic", does the problem
vanish then?
Comment 11 hennerdrewes 2009-02-24 08:41:52 UTC
Same thing with classic theme

If you have a close look, there is another strange aspect. There seems to be
some kind of color distortion: Some letters have a greenish shadow, some appear
in red. I noticed that also on the Vista machine, but on this screen it is much
clearer.
Comment 14 Frank Schönheit 2009-02-24 09:01:38 UTC
The icons in your screen shots look strange - which distribution of OOo do you
use? The vanilla one from www.openoffice.org?
Comment 15 hennerdrewes 2009-02-24 09:05:32 UTC
It is vanilla OOo.

Just changed the icon theme.
Comment 16 Frank Schönheit 2009-02-24 09:11:35 UTC
ah, okay.

Sadly, this leaves me clueless (I had hope you're using a non-vanilla
distribution :), as I still cannot reproduce the problem here.
Comment 17 hennerdrewes 2009-02-24 09:16:21 UTC
If I'll get bored during the day, I can install OOO310_m1 on all available
machines in my office to see what results I will get there (-;
Comment 18 hennerdrewes 2009-02-24 10:28:02 UTC
Tested on another machine: XP Sp2 everything OK there.

The previous XP machine was Sp3, so maybe that's a clue?
Comment 19 Frank Schönheit 2009-02-26 12:00:34 UTC
Just installed SP3 in a VM-machine - no, cannot reproduce.
Comment 20 hennerdrewes 2009-02-26 12:59:30 UTC
Well, I tried it also on a XP Sp3 in a virtual machine, also cannot reproduce it
there.

Still, I had the effect on two machines, but I am running out of ideas.
Comment 21 drewjensen.inbox 2009-09-29 19:42:23 UTC
@hennerdrewes
- tried reproducing this under XP and Win 7 using 3.1.1 and DEV300m_60 (3.2
codeline) and cannot reproduce the effect. Given that and the time period and
that your last comments all seem to show that it is not happening for you
anymore either - setting to WORKSFORME.
