When I want to look at the nbusers mailing list archive to check for new mails, It's quite hard and annoying. Steps I've done: - at http://www.netbeans.org/mail-top.html click on "Browse archives" on nbusers line - choose "Jul 2001" it brings me to the beginning of the month, but I want to see the end! There is no way how to revert the order. Click on "Show All" tries to load the WHOLE archive instead the one month only. When I click on "Show All", the Netscape browser freezes and occupies 100% CPU. When I want to get to the end of the list, I have to go through 583 items with 20 listed each time, thus I have to go through 29 pages!!
Annoying, but not a P1.
I've filled it originally as P1, since Netscape got frozen after click on "Show All" when it tried to load the whole archive instead one month only and I had to kill it, losing all other Netscape's opened windows. I know, that this fact is more a Netscape problem, but the archive is still almost unusable when connecting through low-bandwidth modem. Many users may have this problem when searching the archive and it should be fixed soon.
Assigning to support, also please note there are really 2 issues mentioned here : 1) sort order of month view is ascending instead of descending; 2) "Show all" shows entire archive, rather than all for currently select month.

Please see issue 13427 for the "show all" issue. Narrowing the scope of this issue.
This is annoying, but I think it is a lack of a feature rather than a defect. THe feature we need is a "reverse order" button on the Archive page.
Disagree; sort ascending of mail messages makes the web interface pretty much useless for anyone using it to read current mail. eg : To read todays mail on nbusers, you'd have to click "September". I see messages 1-21. At 21 msgs per page, and 421 msgs in Sept right now, that's about 20 clicks until I see *today's* messages. I'd have to repeat all of that, plus a few more Nexts, tomorrow. Note this is also a regression, prior to upgrade the sort order was fine. A "reverse order" button might also be useful, but the default behaviour should be sort descending.
I agree with Jack, this is certainly not an enhancement. It's a defect, which significantly impact users' productivity.
Found this on OpenOffice.org I do not know when this enhancement (last date first) will be implemented. But, as a stop-gap solution, do this: 1. when in the archive, go to the url in the browser 2. switch the end with the start. 3. press return (enter, go, whatever). thus, ...1 to 500, becomes 500 to 1 works for me.

Entered this for Product Management (PCN5999). Note: similar Open office issue: 1428.
This has been targeted for SC1.3.
Other suggestions from Rochelle Raccah, made in issue 13988 : 2) Add ascending/descending sort orderings for all views (author, date, subject, etc.) 3) Add last page/first page links for going through pages of messages

New target milestone: 1.1.3 This issue is being expedited. Note that the scope of this issue is "switch the sort order to descending". For any additional requests, please make a new issue (to avoid holding up this issue in scope creep).
I've reopened 13988 to track the requests in this issue which are outside of the scope of "switch the sort order to descending"
This issue has been expedited to the current 1.1 release, and will be included in the upcoming NetBeans upgrade.
