Description Jiri Mzourek 2001-12-06 12:40:38 UTC
Labels on the 2nd panel of wizard (JAR Recipe) should have mnomonics.
Comment 1 brinkley 2001-12-20 05:54:31 UTC
Can you provide a pointer to a document that inidcates we need to use
mnemonics on labels
Comment 2 Jiri Mzourek 2001-12-20 09:05:59 UTC
Internal page:
http://accessibility.eng/site.topics/developing-accessible-apps.html#mnemonic

In general, mnemonics *should* be used but it's not *must have*.
Comment 3 brinkley 2001-12-20 16:59:02 UTC
I've included the section that you're refering to at the bottom of
this page. There is no mention of putting mnemonics on Labels. While
it is possible to have a mnemonic on a label it's an overuse of the
mnemonic paradigm which is universally used and understood for menus
and buttons. Additionally on a large screen, particularly one with
menus, it's would be very easy to use all of the avialable mnemonic
keys. Accessibility is still available through keyborad traversal.

Unless we have done some studies indicating the use mnenomics on
labels is a productivity improvement our there is another usability
document that strongly encourages this usage I would not recommend
adding mnemonics to labels.

6. Use Mnemonics and Accelerators

Mnemonics are underlined characters that appear in menu items and on
the buttons in some dialog boxes. A mnemonic can only be activated
when the item is visible and does not require a modifier key (e.g.,
the user does not need to press the Alt key). All menu items must have
mnemonics, so that keyboard-only use is practical.

Accelerators are displayed on menu items or buttons in parentheses
after the item's text [e.g., "Save (Ctrl+S)"]. The accelerator
requires the use of a modifier key, and can be activated any time the
application's window has the input focus. Commonly used functionality
should always be available via an accelerator. Using accelerators
greatly improves the productivity of both power users and persons with
mobility impairments.

The mnemonics are still missing. Dongrading to P4.
Comment 5 Milos Kleint 2002-04-25 08:21:40 UTC
the bug still remained P3, downgrading to P4 as mentioned by the reporter.
Comment 6 Milos Kleint 2002-04-25 09:29:09 UTC
the only thing that doesn't have a mnemonic is the text "Specify
contents for JAR file" which is not a label but rather a titled
border. Dunno why it should have a mnemonic.
Comment 7 Jiri Mzourek 2002-04-26 12:55:11 UTC
I mainly mean missing menmonics on "Basic Recipe Properties" wizard panel.
Comment 8 Milos Kleint 2002-04-26 14:37:11 UTC
ok, confusion was cause by the fact that I considered this panel to be
the first one not 2nd.. anyway.. fixed in trunk.
