I'd like to be able to change the default action invoked by double clicking a node in the Explorer window. For example, I'd like to be able to make double an Ant script open it in the editor instead of executing its default target, or make double clicking an XML file open it in editor mode instead of tree view. This was handled very cleanly in OpenWindows by using a keyboard modifier when clicking on a menu item -- so if you held down Ctrl while selecting a menu entry, the entry became the default action for that menu. A similar mechanism, or some other configuration path, would allow me to customise NetBeans' behaviour more to my liking.
Target milestone -> 3.4
It will be also nice to be able to identify the default action in the context menu - it can be i.e. bold.
Target milestone was changed from '3.4' to TBD.
yes, would be reasonable. However I'm not sure about trigger that would cause default action to change. Ctrl seems good to me, but some modules (CVS) are using Ctrl as accessor to advanced menu items (Commit -> Commit...) Assigning to ui team to decide what form setter should have.
Obsolete, seems to work as desired.
