Description Jesse Glick 2002-11-28 18:58:45 UTC
In my mail reader (Mozilla 1.1), I connect to
news.netbeans.org for
netbeans.modules.openide.dev. I tried to read the
message

Re: [openide-dev] Problem with 'Scores' sample,
please help
Adrian Herscu 11/15 01:41 AM

but I get:

Error!
newsgroup server responded:Bad article number

Perhaps the article has expired

<netbeans.modules.openide.dev/ar24uu$p7g$1@h74.sny.collab.net>
(8247)

Click here to remove all expired articles

Why?

Also another message by Adrian in the same thread,
11/19 12:06 PM, gives an error too.

Update: at this time i cannot see any message by Adrian Herscu in
openide.dev. at news.netbeans.org.I'm testing with Mozilla 1.0.1 and
netscape 7.0. I see only 6 messages on the 15th of Nov. One by George,
two by Gert, one by Kok, one by Jaroslav, and one by Chris. Also, I'm
not seeing any message on the 19th of Nov. by Adrian. Please confirm
if you have a chance Jesse. Thanks.

Also, noticed that mailing list dev@openide.netbeans.org stopped
archiving on the 7th of Nov.

Action plan: I'd file internal issues to site engineer to investigate.

Next update: in two days.

updating white board with internal tracking numbers
Comment 3 Jesse Glick 2002-12-03 22:28:38 UTC
Indeed, cannot find that message in the Pan newsreader. Maybe a weird
cache problem in Mozilla? Or perhaps the message was there originally
but then got killed on the server. Hard to know, since the HTML
archives were not being made anyway. I asked Mozilla to purge the
expired messages.

You can see that I replied in this thread - one message survives
(11/14/02). Check the References header. The original is gone.

Thanks Jesse, I passed your info to our engineer. My guess is that
we'll run a kind of history command to find out what happened. I'll
keep you posted.
Comment 5 jveres 2002-12-09 16:35:36 UTC
update: i requested an update from the engineer in the internal issue.

action plan: monitoring update from internal issue

Next update: in two days
Comment 6 jveres 2002-12-12 18:03:39 UTC
update: our nntp engineer is investigating this issue now. Some of his
findings:

'pretty odd since it looks like we never had that message in scast but
might have been in the news server once. But it's really strange since
all postings are routed through sourcecast first before they end up in
the NNTP server!

in the meantime if you had 'related emails to that subject (responses
or original)' Jesse that would help. Thanks for looking.

Next update: upon feedback from our engineer.

Comment 7 Jesse Glick 2002-12-12 20:32:22 UTC
I just have one reply in this thread on NNTP. Relevant info:

From: Jesse Glick <jesse.glick@sun.com>
Subject: Re: [openide-dev] Problem with 'Scores' sample, please help
Date: Thu, 14 Nov 2002 18:48:58 -0500
Message-ID: <netbeans.modules.openide.dev/ar1coo$u8g$1@h74.sny.collab.net>
References: <netbeans.modules.openide.dev/ar157i$bvr$1@h74.sny.collab.net>

Sorry, that is all the info there is I think. Can probably close this
out, since the information needed to solve it seems to be missing.
Comment 8 jveres 2002-12-12 20:58:45 UTC
thanks Jesse and we'll try to be ready next time. I guess if we did
not click on 'remove all expired articles' we would in better shape to
debug, thanks again. closing as wontfix.
