GTK Look And Feel is quite strange.
Created attachment 12134 [details] Screenshot of GTK Look And Feel
- the fonts are different. The font is the right family but is set at the wrong DPI or point size (probably a JDK bug) - text the explorer tree has a colored background - the toolbars buttons are about double width - menus are about double height and 1.5x width This is with Fedora Core 1 and Bluecurve (with font dpi set at 110), NetBeans dev-20031118.
Planned to be fixed for 3.6.
FWIW: GTK L&F looks just as bad with JDK 1.5 alpha, but then some of the problems seem intrinsic to GTK L&F (the demo apps look weird too).
FYI, you may want to try a recent build. There should be no more black-on-black text. There are no UI delegates for the new winsys for GTK L&F, and it doesn't look pretty. Given that at least the text is legible, we may want to close this issue and open specific ones on individual problems. We should make sure the IDE is basically usable on GTK for 3.6, and plan full support for it for a subsequent release.
GTK support has been integrated. For now, to run it, run with -J-DuseGtk=true and only on jdk 1.5 > b47. Using GTK L&F on 1.4.2 is blocked even if using -ui, since it would throw exceptions, etc. We'll make it the default after the next 1.5 beta (or release) goes out.
