Description llturro 2004-03-01 14:54:00 UTC
[ BUILD # : 200402261900 ]
[ JDK VERSION : J2SE 1.4.2_02 ]

Module's tree from Available updates and New modules in Update Center is too small. The thumb it's so small that became imposible to scroll by dragging it. You don't get a clear idea of what tree are you using (Update center, beta or alpha).

The tree should take wizard's height.

I don't understand. Could you please attach a screenshot ?

Looking for specific modules in the tree is well achieved with the
search capabilities, but once you find it, you have no idea in what
center it is. I would take some risk with some modules, whereas not
with others. It would be much better if the tree was wizard's height.
Comment 4 Lukas Hasik 2004-03-01 15:32:29 UTC
well, I understand now. It seems reasonable but what if the tree
becomes so small that it's almost un-readable ?

Anyway, it's not a DEFECT, it's ENHANCEMENT

I think that some kind of indication what tree(Update center) you are
in would be enought. Maybe show this info in tooltip ? or add one more
textfield to indicate UC ?
Comment 5 llturro 2004-03-01 15:53:44 UTC
Right Lukas, this will suffice. I'm using the form in NetCAT program
page, which always reports DEFECTs. And about your question, how tree
could become so small? By resizing the wizard?
Comment 6 Lukas Hasik 2004-03-01 16:34:37 UTC
hmm, we have a little misunderstanding here.

>The tree should take wizard's height.
I understood that the whole tree under one UC should have height of
the "Available updates and New modules" area. And I imagined to
achieve it by changing the tree size (smaller font etc.)
Or did you mean just to change the height or the area ?

Comment 7 llturro 2004-03-01 17:01:41 UTC
Yes, the height of the area:

! T ! INSTALL !
! R ! !
! E !-------- !
! E ! VERSION !
! ! EXPL. !
Comment 8 Lukas Hasik 2004-03-02 09:42:39 UTC
I don't think that it'd help so much to change the height of the area.
It needn't be enough of space for big trees anyway.

I think that the indication of update center in every moment would be
enough.
A decision depends on module owner or ui experts...

thanks for enhancement

> Anyway, it's not a DEFECT, it's ENHANCEMENT
The more I think about it the less I'm convinced. To install/update a
module, first I need to close the internationalized nodes or I would
not be able to know whether that module is what I'm looking for. I
like your idea of including the Update Center in a new field. Could be
possible to add the full path? This may help knowing whether you're in
one of those i18ed nodes.

I'd like you to reconsider changing this issue to DEFECT. Installing
the wrong module it's so easy now...
Comment 10 Lukas Hasik 2004-03-23 17:43:50 UTC
Jiri, could you evaluate for promo-d ?
Seems as small/simple change.

I'll sumarize a little bit for you.

User can easily get lost in the UC modules structure and then she/he
has to scroll up to find in which Update Center is he now.
It'd be more comfortable for user if he/she can see in every moment
what UC is she in.

The tree is not part on planned Autoupdate UI (issue 58330).
