do you still have the affected user directory available? could you
attach the content of it's system/Windows2Local directory?

any steps to reproduce? did your previous netbeans run exit correctly?
does it happen with empty/new user directory as well?

I tried reinstalling NetBeans with the existing user directory, the
exception still occured each time I started the app.  I had to
continue with my project, so I killed the user directory (and didn't
think to keep a backup).  Current install works fine, for now.

I think I auto-updated once or twice on the old install but not right
before the app started failing.

fixed in trunk.
NPE is avoided and IDE starts ok. 

However some of the configuration files could not be read, so an
exception is still logged in the log file. Given that, the IDE's state
could not be completely recreated. If you encounter it, please file a
bug and atatch the affected non-parsable file.
