When performing initial check out (or an update
with new directories) it's possible to enable the
"Check out read only" check box under tab "Common
options".

Since built-in CVS client seems not to support
this feature (as is does not support EDIT) this
options should be disabled if working with
built-in client for avoiding confusion:

The files are not read only after check out but
the user think they are.

This can be seen as a defect in fact.
It's easy to fix.
