If the schema editor window is narrow enough, the error messages that appear in the search control panel (below the column/tree view) may be hidden. It was suggested that the errors appear in a dialog, but I find popup dialogs annoying, so perhaps a tooltip with a light red background would be better. The tooltip should stay visible for a few seconds, or close on the next AWT event (key press or mouse event).
Instead of a tooltip, a better graphic effect would be to have a sliding panel with a yellowish background that appears above the search control panel. It would contain the error message, and automatically hide itself after several seconds. In this way it would not interfere with the user modifying their search and trying it again.
Worth fixing it only if there are enough users and they find it difficult. So far it has worked out nicely.
