Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 109630
Can not Install OOo 3.2
Last modified: 2010-03-04 18:40:44 UTC
When I download Open Office 3.2 and start the install, it gets part way through and then a box pops up which says "Please exit openoffice.org 3.1 and the openoffice.org 3.1 quickstart before you can continue" The point is I dont have OOo 3.1 on my computer. So while I am trying to use your product and am happy to make a donation I find that I can not install it. Can you give any help on this matter. Many thanks Anthony Bramham abramham46@sky.com
This is "Installation", not "Word Processor" component.
Before we start wild guessing: What operating system are you using?
Thank you for getting back to me. I am using Vista Home Premium. Regards Tony
Just guessing: It's 64bit? I don't know if this is valid for Vista too: Look for the registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\OpenOffice.org' and remove it.

Hi, I am not a cumputer wizard and have no idea where to look for registry key 'HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\OpenOffice.org' Thanks Tony
Hi, I have read issue 104421 and this is what happens when I try to install, the same problem as listed here at issue 104421. Is there an simple answer to this problem or is it ongoing, regards tony
As you have written you are not familiar with the registry. So I won't ask you to edit this file because a wrong step might cause big trouble. So have you tried the mentioned CCLeaner (http://www.ccleaner.com/)?
Hi, no I have not tried it because I do not know what the CCLeaner is, is it on my computer and if so where and I will give it a try. I am kicking myself because like the guy in issue 104421 I had OOo 3.1 on my computer and running fine. I then noticed (or was informed) there was an upgrade to 3.2 so I un-installed 3.1 and downloaded 3.2 and then the problems started. Wish I had not bothered. I am sorry about my knowledge on Computers, I am a photographer that uses my computer for photographic work and used OOo to do my letters/invoices. I can not last long without a replacement so any help you can give will be appreciated. I have now downloaded CCLeaner and run it but the above problem is still there? Regards Tony
You've used CCleaner and the problem persists? That's bad. Hi, Thanks for your help but I think I have come to the end of the line, perhaps one of the comments I have read is right and Microsoft dont like your product, either way you have a problem with it. If it was may computer only I would be concerned but the fault is just the same as discribed at issue 104421 so it is the product that has the fault. If it gets sorted then please let me know and I will come back to you but in the meantime my time is important and I feel I will have to find some other product to use. You have my e-mail address if anything further transpires. Regards Tony abramham46@sky.com
I have some further information for you...A friend called this evening who is a bit of a cumputer wizard and I was telling him about all the trouble I was having trying to install OpenOffice. He asked me to try and install it and the usual box popped up saying "Please exit OpenOffice.org 3.1 and the OpenOffice.org 3.1 quickstarter before continue" I told him that I had downloaded CCLeaner and done two cleans of the drive and register. He first removed all files containing the words "OpenOffice" and "OOo" He then moved to the start button and typed "regedit" in a box and started to search a load of files, inside one of the files he found to more files both appertaining to OpenOffice.org which he deleted, then we downloaded Open Office again and this time it installed. So to anyone who has this problem the culprit files are in your registery and CCLeaner does not see them as being junk files so does not delete them. Hope this helps anyone still having problems.
