Description erwachsen42 2003-05-20 16:10:16 UTC
When loading a CSV file to the calc part of open office,
a dialog "textimport" is presented.

This dialog has "unusual" settings and does not remember
the settings from the last time a csv file was loaded.

Useful settings:

- "split options": "Semikolon" and not "comma"
(i have not seen any files with comma)

- Fields: column type: "text" and not "standard"
or at least a check box with "for all columns"
because it is very (annoying) to setthe type to "text"
  for some 40 coulmns.
Reason is that a spread sheet application (excel too)
destroys the contents of numeric and date/time fields
for example by removing leading zeros (01234 -> 1234)
or by adding a year to what seems to be a date
  (20.05. -> 20.05.03)  and so on

Thanks for reading this,
N O

PS:
What about the 32000 row limit :-), the document was last updated along time ago.

Hi unnamed user,

The "set type to multiple columns" issue is already fixed in OOo 1.1.
There you can select one column, or column ranges, or several single
columns, or all columns, just like in a real Calc sheet.
The name "CSV" means Comma Separated Values, therefore the default
settings... ;-)
Finally I agree, that remembering the dialog settings is a good idea.

nothing for ms_interop., so no blocking of 21783

Summary: The last used settings in the dialog "Textimport" should be remembered.
Hello Niklas, please give approval for this evaluated OO.o 2.0 flagged issue.
If you confirm with the target OO.o 2.0, then please keep it on your owner (or
the owner of the concerning developer) for implementation. In case you want this
issue for 'OOo Later', then please reset the target milestone. If you decline
the issue finally, please set the resolution to 'Wontfix' (but do not close). In
case of 'OOo Later' or 'Wontfix' please reset it on Bettina's owner. Thank you.

This should be "enhancement", not "defect".
It's not on the list of features that we're going to do for 2.0. We need to
focus on the enhancements from the PCD document.

Btw, CSV stands for Comma Separated Values, even if the original submitter has
not seen files with comma.
This issue now is nothing different from issue 3687, is it?
