Description khirano 2003-05-23 08:24:00 UTC
Commas and periods of non-Japanese fonts should
be correctly displayed in vertical texts.

Using Writer with Asian language support enabled
on Languages under Language Settings in Options
of Tools menu, commas and periods don't appear
if you change the text direction from horizontal
to vertical on Page tab in Page settings of Format menu.
(When non-Japanese fonts are used, for example,
Times New Roman on Windows.)

pl->ssa: possibly fixed in vcl11. Could you please have a look ?
Comment 4 stephan_schaefer 2003-06-06 13:26:49 UTC
This only occurs on Win98 and is probably font related. Setting target
to 2.0.
Comment 5 khirano 2003-06-07 10:09:39 UTC
Thanks for your confirmation.

Now I am collecting information on this issue from Japanese
OOo1.1beta2 users. One of them has just reported that this
occurs on XP Professional too. I hope you take it account.

And I would like to ask, isn't it possible to set the target
to 1.1? Thanks.

The same problem has occurred also in my place(win2000)
look it>>
http://oooug.jp/cgi-bin/upbbs/img-box/img20030607175141.png

I feel that character conversion has occurred.
If it refers to a unicode character table
[,] 0x002c -> 0xff64
[.] 0x002e -> 0xff61
This is not contained in English fonts.
Because, it is not used in the ASCII character.

This problem was not only cannot be displayed.
It is a problem that character code conversion is performed.

Wish becoming better.

The screenshot cannot be accessed without a userid+password, which I
don't have. I suggest to add it as attachment.

Yes, because of a request by a Korean tester (#104627#) the comma and
period are replaced by U+3001 and U+3002. When these characters aren't
there they should be taken from a fallback font...

Above is the minari shu's screenshot file.
Are you sure with the issue number #104627#?

Hi, HDU,

I really appreciate your work to provide Asian-friendly OOo.

I do NOT think Latin comma and period in vertical flow should be
replaced with Asian punctuation characters.
It's because they are simply different characters.
FYI, Japanese MS-Word doesn't replace these characters.

I pointed out this problem in issue #11579 several months ago.
(characters located at H-0 and H-1 in the bugdoc there)

Anyway, I would be happy if you could find nice resolution to
this, considering opinions raised here and the Korean tester's
requirement.

Thanks,

Like with quotation marks:
Replacing Latin commas and periods in vertical _Western_text is NOT
appropiate (this goes for half-width ASCII).
Comment 14 hdu@apache.org 2003-06-30 13:57:35 UTC
Product Management agrees with this. Now it loks like for korean
vertical writing the input method should do the transformations.
So I'm disabling the "on the fly" unicode replacements for text
output in vertical mode. (CWS OOO11RC)
