Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 15847
Presentation with missing pictures
Last modified: 2004-01-29 17:02:20 UTC
I built a presentation with a lot of pictures. At a certain point most of them vanished and there was only a frame with a picture symbol. I tried to export it to PowerPoint, but they did not appear again. Neither saving under a different name nor a restart of my computer did help.

I can see the bug in the attached document but I can't reproduce it. Please have a look
Sorry - forgot to tell that I have shortened the presentation for downloading size. It was almost about 750 kb large when the trouble began. Had different types of pictures, too (Jpeg, animated gifs, gifs).
one for you thorsten
Okay, checked the content.xml. There is a total of 11 'xlink:href=""' picture references within, which correspond to the 11 missing images. About how that came about, I can only speculate, since I was not able to reproduce this bug. One possibility is lack of disk space, although I could not reproduce this behaviour, it is theoretically possible that the document was not written completely. Upon reload, missing pictures are then set to the empty link, as described above. Another possible reason might be "linked images". If you move their location in the file system relative to the document, they will also vanish (and quite rightly so). THB->CGU: Could you check if one of the above scenarios is reproducable?
Indeed - I changed the location of some pictures AFTER I put them in the presentation and I did not just link them. Afterwards more pictures than just the moved one were lost!
This is not a bug with priority 1, because it is not so easy to reproduce. I change it to P2.
I can't reproduce the bug. I created a presentation inserted some pictures and move them afterwards. After saving and loading the presentation I see all pictures. Please write me a step by step description how to reproduce the bug.
maybe the same problem as in the internal bug 110543. I will have a look again when 110543 is fixed.
And once again OOo has spoiled a presentation! After re-inserting all the images and working a little further, Presentations once more forgot my pictures. A file, former size about 4.2 MB, now has about 34 kB. ... and still don't know how I did it.

could you attach the document before the graphics disappears? It would assist us greatly.
Believe me - if I could attach a working presentation, I would not complain ;-) I've found an almmost "new" version. - attaching

There are currently two known ways how this picture losses could have come by. The first one is a timing issue, which is revertible by a simple "File->Reload" (i.e. the picture only disappears in the office, it's still intact in the document on disk). The second one is limited disk space. Could you tell me where the office stores its temporary files? This is listed in the "Tools->Options" dialog, below StarOffice- >Paths, the entry is named "Temporary files". When viewing your last document, ~14 MB is needed in this temp dir. So, could you, next time this issue happens to you, please check against these two cases (and possibly rule them out)?
Way No 1: The filesize suddenly decreased from the ~4 MB to some kB. I realized it when I tried to open it the other day and the pictures were gone - so "reload" did not help. Way No 2: The disk I was working on had about 1 GB freespace, so this also could not be the reason. I have another Idea: In the time I was working at the presentation, I cleared the "Temp" folder - of course NOT while having open the presentation! But: Is there a possibility that OOo saves and leaves important info in that Temp-Path in some temporary file even after quiting the programme? That would explain everything ...!

We are working on this bug. Representative for all missing grafic issues I send the issue 16297 to the developer. I set this issue to duplicate of issue 16297. *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 16297 ***
This issue is duplicate to issue 16297 Issue 16297 is fixed and integrated in OOo 1.1.1 I close this issue. Please reopen it if the bug still occures in OOo1.1.1.
