Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 20979
Horizontal bar stuck
Last modified: 2013-08-07 14:41:21 UTC
After inserting a horizontal bar in the first line of a document, I cannot remove it.
In general, this is not a great bug report, because there is not enough details to reproduce exactly what the user is experiencing. 1. We do not know the steps taken by the user to create this problem. 2. Horizontal bar could mean the horizontal measurement ruler or the horizontal ruler that is used as a line across the page of a document. 3. The summary is also too vague to be used as a fast assessment of the problem. Luckily, this bug demonstrates how users may define a problem with getting a feature to work as a bug, even though OOo is working as it was designed to. The line seen in the first line of the document is actually a border on the bottom of the first line. To remove it, you have 2 options: 1a Place the cursor at the beginning of the line containing the horizontal line. b Right click with the mouse and choose "Paragraph". c Click on the "Borders" tab. Notice that the bottom border is enabled. d Remove the bottom border by either clicking on the bottom border border preview box, or clicking on the predefined empty border default. See "borderfix.png" for a screenshot. 2. Change the style to "Default". See "stylefix.png" for a screenshot.

See attached document bug.txt created in OpenOffice.org1.1.0 I was using a row of hyphens to delineate extracts from a source document, and after a few successful attempts the program seemed to decide I would like a solid line instead! The first time it happened I managed to get rid of it by deleting lines, inserting more lines to kep my text away from it, deleting, and so on until it went away. This second time proved more difficult. Deciding it was worth a bug report I upgraded to 1.1.1 and the problem is still visible. Finding this zilla-issue, I checked and it is indeed a border, but deleting it moves it up a line. Looking line by line, several lines above it have the bottom border set, extending to above the text. It looks as if when I typed the row of hyphens OOo formatted the paragraph with a bottom border. Sure enough, in Help, I find that three (or more) hyphens do that. Please don't dismiss this as not an issue. It hurts the user. As a minimum, please put an entry in Help about deleting horizontal lines (inserting them is there) referring to the possibility that it could be a border generated by the autocorrect 'apply border' option, so that the user can turn it off. It would also be useful to annotate the autocorrect options dialogue to make it clear in all cases just what is being corrected. Replace dashes - with what? Apply border - when? Apply styles - when? Create table - when? Sorry to bang on, but I get the flack from my 1000 users who have (partly as a result of this sort of problem) given me the task of installing MS office on everything.....

Yeah, this is a duplicate to issue 25513. the "horizontal line" has been created by using the paragraph border feature (which is triggered by certain "Insert.Horizontal line" options). *** This issue has been marked as a duplicate of 25513 ***
Closed duplicate.
