Apache OpenOffice (AOO) Bugzilla – Issue 21943
MS Database replacement incorporation
Last modified: 2006-05-31 14:29:06 UTC
OpenOffice.org has become a very widespread and competitive office suite world wide. Unfortunately, however, many companies, both big and small, have been limited in their turnover to OpenOffice.org, from any other office suite. This is simply because it lacks an easy to use, standalone, database program that is compatible with MS Access and many others, as Writer and the others are. If this enhancement is introduced, many more companies will be able to turn over, without losing anything. On behalf of these companies, I would like to ask for a suitable database program to be implemented in the package. Thankyou!

Why won't it work?
Thanks for your interest in OOo, and especially in DBA! One thing I have to correct is the target - sorry, but "next build" is definately not appropriate, since intermediate builds are to be released in a (2 to 4)-week schedule. (Besides this, setting a target is something which not everybody is allowed to do). Another thing I have to correct is the priority according to http://www.openoffice.org/issues/bug_status.html#priority.
Sorry about that... I didn't know. I do now thought, and thankyou.
Since you assigned the issue to yourself, am I right in assuming that you want to implement it? :) You might be interested in the plans we have for the DBA part in OOo 2.0. For this, please look at dba.openoffice.org/specifications, and in the "Documentation" section of OOo. Additionally, you might want to query for issues owned by me (fs@openoffice.org), a high number of them (they have they keyword "Q-PCD") deals with our plans for OOo 2.0's DBA. You will find that plans for a database module as you suggest (to a certain extent) are already on the way.
Thankyou very much. Shall do (in regard to your suggestions). What, however, do you mean by me wanting to implement it? If you mean use it, yes... If you mean encode it myself, no. I don't know enough programming... yet
yes, this is what I wanted with implement :). The reason why I was asking is that you have the ownership of the issue, and this means that you are the next one to take action on it :). Since I assume that this was by accident, I assign the issue to myself for the moment. However, I'm pretty sure we can resolve this as duplicate of some other issue ....
Sorry... I really am a beginner here. Sorry, but thankyou very much for your help.

Was I correct in doing that?
