Description number5 2003-12-05 00:40:45 UTC
After some weeks OOo did just work fine, it now crashes every time I try to
start it, without any reason I can think of (no changes to the user's
permissions, no setup.exe call, nor any other change to the OOo installation).
OOo 1.1.0 (german version) on Windows XP; setup
-net, setup for working user.

I _know_ there was an issue
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=20705 which was closed, but the
workaround mentioned there is not specified, and everyone seems to ignore
comments to closed issues. All my affords to repait it myself using setup.exe
had no effect.

Complete message:
>>
OpenOffice.org kann nicht gestartet werden, da beim Zugriff auf die
OpenOffice.org Konfigurationsdaten ein Fehler aufgetreten ist.

Bitte wenden Sie sich an Ihren Systemadministrator.

Folgender interner Fehler ist aufgetreten: GetStorage, name: "No
Content!<<

(closing " missing, and maybe some more text which doesn't fit in the box?)

Tried to repair using setup.exe; no effect. quickstart.exe crashes
with the same message.

What is this workaround mentioned? I'll try it happily, but it should be
documented in a useful way.

of @ tm: any idea? I've never seen this issue and I can't reproduce.
I've read in the mailing list that setup with the repair option has
solved the problem for the user.

Can you try to provide more information. what is the latst things you do with
OOo, so we can analize it the data.
is there any possibilities that some user maybe do something to OOo ?
is that crash happend for all user or just some user ?
How about if you login as administrator is that same condition ?

workaround please try to repair the installation, or uninstall and install
again.

Hi there, this morning I recieved this message.

I am running OOo 1.1.0. Yesterday I was playing around (working) with a 200k
spreadsheet. I was copying and pasting large amounts of linked cells and then
my computer hung. I am running Win 98 SE.

I have tried the installation repair, to no avail.

If anyone has any other suggestions, I shall try.

Regards madpah.

Please Attach the documents which make this problem, so we can test it/faster to
confirm.
(Without the documents, we cannot confirm the problem easily/need more time)
Don't forget to cut other part of the documents, so the file size is small, but
we still able to see the problem.

and step by step how to reproduce the problem.

Note that the 'Get Storage, name "No Content"' message may be triggered by a
number of different failures in the configuration system. In most (but
apparently not all) cases, it indicates a corrupt "Common.xcu" file.

@Number5: In #20705# you attached a setup.log file. That is misplaced there and
should rather be attached here.

Looking at your attachment, one of your Common.xcu files appears to be
corrupted. Unfortunately I cannot tell whether it is
$(userinstall)/user/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Common.xcu or
$(install)/share/registry/data/org/openoffice/Office/Common.xcu or
$(install)/share/registry/res/de/org/openoffice/Office/Common.xcu

Please try:
1. remove file
C:\Dokumente und
Einstellungen\Tobias\Anwendungsdaten\OpenOffice.org1.1.0\user\registry\data\org\openoffice\Office\Common.xcu

Does the office start now ?

Otherwise:
2. remove the same file again (if it reappeared) and run setup -repair.

Has the file reappeared and does office start now ?

Otherwise:
3. Try setup -net -repair

Check D:\Programme\OpenOffice.org1.1.0\program\setup.log for lines containing
ERR near the end.

Does the office start now ?

Otherwise:
4. Remove file
D:\Programme\OpenOffice.org1.1.0\share\registry\res\de\org\openoffice\Office\Common.xcu

If the office starts now, you'll have some english elements in your UI (e.g. in
menu Datei-Neu). To get that fixed, try setup -net -repair. If that does not
help (or break things again) proceed with the next step.

Otherwise:
5. Remove the entire directory D:\Programme\OpenOffice.org1.1.0 and redo the
setup -net -d D:\Programme\OpenOffice.org1.1.0; you don't need to redo the user
setup.

Does the office start now ?

Otherwise: Check D:\Programme\OpenOffice.org1.1.0\program\setup.log for lines
containing ERR near the end. If they are there, you appear to have a broken
installation set.

hello

i had the same problem as described, and it happended twice now. (it's not on my
own computers, so it's kind of hard to tell you exactly what's going on)

the details i do have:

windows xp home, french, latest updates made @ 02.jan.2004
openoffice 1.1, french

only one user on the machine

particularity : serial ata drive on via controller (onboard)

i don't believe the data is lost due to a physical problem though, since all
other data is doing just fine.

the problem happened once, about 2 weeks after new installation. i had to
completely remove openoffice and install again.
two weeks after that, the message is here again and shows up at startup time.

i know that the user is using a lot of excel and word files (but not big ones)

if i can provide files or error logs, please tell me exactly where to get those.

Comment 8 rags 2004-02-05 15:14:02 UTC
I found a solution to my problem : the problem came up not because of
openoffice, but because of a problem with the via sata controller driver (the
disk was unable to write the content of it's cache @ shutdown). everything seems
to work ok now.
Comment 9 thorsten.martens 2004-02-23 12:46:30 UTC
Are you still able to reproduce this problem with a recent OOo build like the
RC5 ? "Rags" mentioned, that his problem (hardware related) has gone and wasn´t
a OOo problem.
